“A great family-run hotel in central Tbilisi with traditional Georgian hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

There are plenty of luxury hotels in Tbilisi, the sort where you need a sign above the bed to remind you which city you're in. This is different: it's a family run hotel with the kind of personal service you expect from that. The 19 rooms are spread over three floors and there's no lift so maybe this isn't a good place for those with mobility problems (it's also up a steep hill from Rustaveli Avenue) but climbing the stairs is delightful because each floor has a different character in the public areas. There's also a basement with a pool table although I never went down.

My room was clean and spacious with air conditioning and a good sized bathroom. Other rooms have small balconies. Although the hotel does not have wifi there was a cable link in the room and a free-to-use computer on the first floor.

Arriving in Tbilisi is usually a middle of the night affair - I got to the hotel and 2am - so it was great that when I emerged at 11.30 the next morning the kitchen staff fussed around and set a table for me for breakfast, despit the fact that they had already finished serving. Breakfast was a simple affair - fruit juice, bread, cottage cheese and sour cream with jam, a couple of fried eggs and coffee - but delicious and fresh.

The location of the hotel is fantastic - a hundred metres or so from Rustaveli Avenue, albeit on a 25degree slope. Strolling down the hill in the morning is easy and of you want fancier fare you can always drop into Prospero's Bookshop and Cafe for a dozen different variations on coffee. Going back was a late night journey in a taxi so no hill to climb!

If you're looking for a comfortable room in a hotel with character rather than five-star luxury in an anonymous chain I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

“5 star pampering in understated elegance....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2011

website pics & details DO NOT do this 7 level understated elegant B&B justice....I stayed at Hotel Beaumonde for a month....it resembles a petite "fairy tale like castle" w/service well above American standards...front office staff SPEAK FLUENT ENGLISH...rest of staff speak enough to connect with....SPOTLESSLY clean...steam-pressed towels...crisp embroidered sheets...heavy rosewood BR set w/armoire....hardwood, tile, marble flooring...varnished carved hardwood window trim/doors throughout...Wi-Fi in my room.
...large 2nd fl lounge/greatroom w/overstuffed leather furniture, fpl, 10 person conference table area + computer office area & library- for use by anyone/anytime at no extra charge. Heavy wooden winding staircase leads to large common area tiled wrap around rooftop terrace for 360 degree breathtaking day/night view overlooking the city, mtn ranges, mtn monastary, Mother Georgia statue, etc. I counted 3-4 additional private room small terraces. Maid service performed discreetly at my convenience...never a disturbing knock on the door. Bkfst & dinner times spanned a period of approx 5 hrs each. Meals were plentiful selection of mouthwatering items. Just like upscale American B&B's, all food/drinks served on china with antique silverware on crisp, spotless antique embroidered table linens. As I am a vegetarian, additional veggies were provided for me....each truly delicious and ALL ORGANIC. Beautiful old-world style kitchen was always staffed for limitless coffee/tea/bottled plain or sparking water whenever desired. I often enjoy fruit & coffee in my room & staff members insisted on carrying the tray for me. The website does mention that rooms contain refrigerators and grocery markets are located across the street, along with an American cafe serving pizza, hamburgers, etc. (If one REALLY misses American fast food, McDonald's is a 10 min walk from the hotel). Perhaps most surprising was how the staff took note of my preferences and thus almost routinely saw to my needs without me having to give instructions. Truly amazing. One day I returned with a bunch of lilacs purchased on the street & the staff immediately produced a cut glass vase with water for them AND carried them up to my room for me. Every day when I return from my 'appointed rounds' I am asked "would you like a cup of tea/coffee? are you thirsty? would you like a bottle of plain or sparkling water? If I enter out of breath from jogging up the inclined street, I am asked if I would like to water & to rest in the lobby sitting area before continuing to my room. The hotel atmosphere was consistently serene (my room was so quiet at nighttime, I could hear a pin drop), a much welcomed respite from the hustle/bustle of close by shopping/cafe/museums/tourist attraction streets. During my month stay, I noticed the clientelle included business travelers, journalists, university professors from around Europe along with American investors and tourists. Educated, very nice guests.
I can also report that I 'scouted' some of the well known American chain hotels for comparison in quality versus price and frankly, found them lacking considering the price. In the other hand, comparing the overall quality to price of Hotel Beaumonde, I found it to be surprisingly reasonable. This little hotel compares more accurately with upper scale American hotels and is definately not in the same category as european guesthouses or hostels. Again, I found it above American standards in cleanliness, service, location & hospitality....with understated european elegance of furnishings, decor, linens, tableware, etc. I do have one huge complaint which is that I was unable to find a way to take my room bathtub and bed onto the airplane back to the US as trip momentos. (Oh, well!) My husband & I were planning on spending our upcoming 25th wedding anniversay in Paris or possibly Venice. That has changed. We will instead be spending it in Tbilisi and most certainly will stay at the Hotel Beaumonde. It will be my special gift to him to experience being absolutely 'spoiled rotten' at this little fairy-tale-like castle as I have been. Carissa McConnell, Age 56, Tampa, FL, USA

“Cosy basic place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2010

I stayed at the Beaumonde for a week in October 2010. The beaumonde is a cosy family run hotel but basic. The rooms are quite spacious. The family is friendly and the younger members speak good english. The view from the rooftop is great. There is a computer with free internet access or wifi if you have a laptop. Breakfast is simple but good. They gave us free wine (usually a 2 litre jug!) so don't drink too much. The location is a 5 minute walk from rustaveli avenue.

“Great value and great staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2008

Stayed at the Beaumonde Garden for 2 weeks. I'd say at least 90 percent of the staff spoke English well enough for me to get what I needed. It was rather fun conversing with the staff. The sfaff was extremely friendly and helpful. They provided breakfast of breads, cheeses, and fruit, and Caffee Americana (American Style coffee) if you asked. The dinner was of Georgian affair of course. The wine I had for dinner was very good and they provided it free to me and my associate from about 8:30 pm till 1:00am. Of course we left her a tip for staying up so late with no complaints. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. I acually had a 3rd associate who moved from the Marriott to the Garden because his room was so tiny and the staff stuffy. I would deffinately recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Georgia or working there. Oh, forgot to mention that if you are on business to the American Embassy they will pay for your taxi's to and from the hotel & embassy. The only charge was 20 dollars US from the Airport and another 20 dollars to the airport when I left. Both were added to my bill. Very convenient.

“Try it and see!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2007

Over the past two or so years I have stay at the Beaumonde about half a dozen times. I suppose that I keep on returning as it has to be one of the most friendly and certainly one of the most original hotels in the city and very good value for money to boot (90 US). If you want chic and modern, then stay at one of the Marriotts, but if you are seeking an altogether different, Georgian experience give the Beaumonde a go.

Admittedly, parts of this family-run hotel could probably do with a a bit of a makeover - particularly the bathrooms with their leaky showerheads and chipped tiles. However, these blemishes are insignificant compared to the hotel's numerous other charms such as its warm ambiance, winding stairs, oddly-shaped rooms and expansive guest lounges. Breakfast and dinner are also included in the price and the staff have a habit of lacing you with delicious free red wine! Life could be worse...

By the way, for the more industrious among you the hotel also boasts wi-fi.
