website pics & details DO NOT do this 7 level understated elegant B&B justice....I stayed at Hotel Beaumonde for a month....it resembles a petite "fairy tale like castle" w/service well above American standards...front office staff SPEAK FLUENT ENGLISH...rest of staff speak enough to connect with....SPOTLESSLY clean...steam-pressed towels...crisp embroidered sheets...heavy rosewood BR set w/armoire....hardwood, tile, marble flooring...varnished carved hardwood window trim/doors throughout...Wi-Fi in my room.
...large 2nd fl lounge/greatroom w/overstuffed leather furniture, fpl, 10 person conference table area + computer office area & library- for use by anyone/anytime at no extra charge. Heavy wooden winding staircase leads to large common area tiled wrap around rooftop terrace for 360 degree breathtaking day/night view overlooking the city, mtn ranges, mtn monastary, Mother Georgia statue, etc. I counted 3-4 additional private room small terraces. Maid service performed discreetly at my convenience...never a disturbing knock on the door. Bkfst & dinner times spanned a period of approx 5 hrs each. Meals were plentiful selection of mouthwatering items. Just like upscale American B&B's, all food/drinks served on china with antique silverware on crisp, spotless antique embroidered table linens. As I am a vegetarian, additional veggies were provided for me....each truly delicious and ALL ORGANIC. Beautiful old-world style kitchen was always staffed for limitless coffee/tea/bottled plain or sparking water whenever desired. I often enjoy fruit & coffee in my room & staff members insisted on carrying the tray for me. The website does mention that rooms contain refrigerators and grocery markets are located across the street, along with an American cafe serving pizza, hamburgers, etc. (If one REALLY misses American fast food, McDonald's is a 10 min walk from the hotel). Perhaps most surprising was how the staff took note of my preferences and thus almost routinely saw to my needs without me having to give instructions. Truly amazing. One day I returned with a bunch of lilacs purchased on the street & the staff immediately produced a cut glass vase with water for them AND carried them up to my room for me. Every day when I return from my 'appointed rounds' I am asked "would you like a cup of tea/coffee? are you thirsty? would you like a bottle of plain or sparkling water? If I enter out of breath from jogging up the inclined street, I am asked if I would like to water & to rest in the lobby sitting area before continuing to my room. The hotel atmosphere was consistently serene (my room was so quiet at nighttime, I could hear a pin drop), a much welcomed respite from the hustle/bustle of close by shopping/cafe/museums/tourist attraction streets. During my month stay, I noticed the clientelle included business travelers, journalists, university professors from around Europe along with American investors and tourists. Educated, very nice guests.
I can also report that I 'scouted' some of the well known American chain hotels for comparison in quality versus price and frankly, found them lacking considering the price. In the other hand, comparing the overall quality to price of Hotel Beaumonde, I found it to be surprisingly reasonable. This little hotel compares more accurately with upper scale American hotels and is definately not in the same category as european guesthouses or hostels. Again, I found it above American standards in cleanliness, service, location & hospitality....with understated european elegance of furnishings, decor, linens, tableware, etc. I do have one huge complaint which is that I was unable to find a way to take my room bathtub and bed onto the airplane back to the US as trip momentos. (Oh, well!) My husband & I were planning on spending our upcoming 25th wedding anniversay in Paris or possibly Venice. That has changed. We will instead be spending it in Tbilisi and most certainly will stay at the Hotel Beaumonde. It will be my special gift to him to experience being absolutely 'spoiled rotten' at this little fairy-tale-like castle as I have been. Carissa McConnell, Age 56, Tampa, FL, USA
