“Hotel does not live up to 3 star standards”

This hotel did survive the civil war but just by a wee bit.

The rooms are run down and the furnishings old, wornout, and dirty. The double bed is two singles with a mattress thrown over them but no springs. You sink into a heads up, feet up position with a ridegeline down the middle. Pillows are smelly and dirty.

The roof leaks into the 7th floor - don't accept a room on that floor. The pipes leak into the 3rd floor. The elevators are an E ticket and sometimes fail to go up or down. Much pounding on the doors and jumping up and down will usually get them moving or the doors to open.

The food served in the restaurant is expensive and of very poor quality (there are good restaurants in Brazzaville). Room service does a good job of spaghetti with meat sauce and the pool restaurant is ok.

For the business traveler - no internet in the room unless you have Windows 2000 (XP does not work) and even then internet works only once in a while.

I've been traveling with my wife for over 30 years and this is one of the poorest run and most uncomfortable hotels i've seen.

“Not quite what the website advertises.....”

...but I don't think you are going to find a better hotel in Brazzaville! The lounge/lobby and downstairs common area is fairly comfortable -- small tables set up with waiters available to serve drinks and light meals. The actual "average" room in the hotel deviates majorly from the room shown on the website -- see the attached pictures. The sheets were scratchy, lighting was unpleasant (flourescent), floors were not carpeted and the air conditioning was not dependable. Electricity in Brazzaville is variable, so it is a good idea to travel with a small flashlight for use during power outages.

The water had a slight smell from the faucets, but water pressure and hot water was plentiful. Flooding was apparent in the hallways on several occasions -- although I never experienced this phenomenon in my room. Several of my coworkers were in rooms with poorly functioning air conditioners -- making sleeping fairly unpleasant.

If breakfast is included in your rate, it will be served in Le Flamboyant restaurant directly off of the lobby. Breakfast consisted of coffee/tea, baked goods, various meats, hardboiled eggs, cheese and various fruits and juices.

The pool is very nice and appeared to be clean -- although I did not ever make use of the facility. Cabs are available outside of the lobby and can be hired for $2 USD (1000 CFA) to go anywhere in the city. Feel free to contact me with any questions!!
