I have stayed many times at Gateway for work travel. It is convenient for transit - being so close to the airport - which means fast pick-up and drop-off, something that is very useful and not the same for other hotels in the city (for which I have waited over an hour). Usually Gateway will do pick-ups in 5 minutes and because they are close you can check-out later and know you will get dropped off within 5 minutes - a bonus when you have to check-in 2 hours early even for a domestic flight.
The price is not at all good and while new parts of the hotel have opened up, this still does not justify the prices. The old rooms are reasonable for older rooms but are not fantastic and do not deserve rates of above $150, let alone the asking price of above $250. The newer rooms are quite good although I found cockraoches in both new and old rooms.
I like the restaurant and bar areas and the pool is nice to look at although not private enough for me to want to swim in - however the people in the pool always seem to be enjoying themselves. :)
The buffet is usually very nice although not the cheapest option, but when you are hungry it is great.
The staff are very friendly and at least one reception staff remembered my name from a visit 3 months previous, which impressed me. They have been very helpful and quick to respond when I had a booking issue and polite when I have had to wait. I have been upgraded at least once when rooms were not available (their apratments are nice, though expensive. Good for a group)
Security wise it is very safe generally - which is important, however there is public access to the rooms (not in some hotels in POM) and some doors do not swing close properly when you leave the room. More than once I have thought it closed only to find I could push it open. Worth remembering.
The hotel sometimes messes things up - bookings, bills,
