“Disappointing, not impressed”

I felt compelled to write this review ... We stayed in Dec 2010, planned our trip 2 months prior; had decided on this Inn after reviewing TripAdvisor comments - ranked #2 - and a friend visiting of the premises of a few of the hotels/inns and providing feedback. The outdoor was fine for lounging. Upon entry the reception area quite dark and small - way too small and unsanitary for a breakfast area (even if complimentary). We had two double beds in the small room which took up nearly all the space. And there was a table n chair, a microwave on top of a mini-fridge and a haning TV to negotiate around. THe linen was well used. Ooh! And on one of the beds there was a stain on the sheet prior to our arrival. The personnel must have seen it. THough we brought it to their attention, was not addressed while we were there! Thank goodness we were under the stairway, because that area did provide some "closet space" in the room. There were other little issues .... The Manager. Susan, was indeed very friendly and helpful and we could tell she understood service, but couldn't "carry along her troops". We saw the (co)owner during our stay - not an encouraging service provider. Although our initial plan was to stay there for our entire holiday, we just couldn't. We moved across to the more accomodating Cara Lodge. How did Eldorado Inn get a higher rating than Cara Lodge, by TripAdvisor?? It boggles the mind.

Room Tip: The floors are wooden and there is a wooden stairway near to two of the the rooms

“Basic Home Away from home”

After reading the good reviews on Trip Advisor, I took the gamble and the comments were valid. This is a nice, well priced Inn. It is not a vacation stop, but a pleasant B & B. Rooms are neat, clean, well furnished. The street is quite, although very dark and perhaps dangerous, for tourist, to walk in. But that's resolved being next door to a Taxi point.

Taxi travel is very affordable and clean. So, practically the walking part is resolved.
Susane, the hotel manager turned out to be very friendly and helpful. I need to visit some clients and not only managed to arrange a full day taxi driver (at a competitive rate), but also made sure that I exchange $ to G$ (at a very fair rate).

The hotel is a basic spot to come and do your business. Wifi is a bit slow on the third floor, but fast on the lobby floor. I have enjoyed the value for the fare paid and would come back if business sends me this way.

Room Tip: All rooms on the third floor are well kept and quiet

“Good value for Guyana”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

Hotels in Guyana are in general pretty poor. Eldorado is a reasonably priced little hotel in a fairly quiet neighbourhood north of the centre, about halfway to the embassy area around the Pegasus Hotel. The rooms are clean and have a fridge plus a surprisingly large number of channels on TV (including the big US networks, Fox Soccer & ESPN, much to my delight).
The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The lady at reception is a fountain of knowledge. The only meal available without prior arrangement is breakfast, which is quite average and very basic. However, there are several nearby places to eat (including the restaurant at Cara Lodge which is diagonally opposite and more basic takeaways such as a pizza place and Churches Chicken a couple of blocks north. With a big fridge in the room plus a microwave, one can also eat simple meals in the room, in the breakfast area or take them outside where there are a few tables and chairs.
For those visiting family or friends in Georgetown, it is a good value, friendly and comfortable base.

“Small clean friendly hotel”

A small hotel with limited lobby or indoor space but doea have outside space. The room we had included a pair of queen size beds a small microwave and college dorm size refridgerator. The fridge had 2 bottles of water which I assumed were complimentary but we were charged about $2 a bottle I think. The room also had a small TV with good satellite reception and a small desk. Overall a little small with not much room to move around and no windows unless you count the 1 sq. foot window in the bath room.. But clean and the bed was comfortable. Its comparable to any average standard US style hotel. At what I thought of as a high price especially for Guyana at $110 per night. The area surrounding was Ok and I did feel safe. However did not appear to be much in the area as far as restaurants or bars were concerned just the much larger and more expensive Cara Lodge. Just a precautionary FYI, I prepaid 1 night as a deposit which appears to be their policy. We flew MIA-POS-GEO and due thunderstorms in MIA the AA flight was over 4 hours late causing us to miss our connecting flight and get in a day late, they charged us for the first night anyway, although after much negoiation they did agree to reduce it by 1/2.

It's our 3rd visit to the Eldorado Inn, I found this little gem when looking for a hotel for my mom, she was so impressed after her first visit I need to experience it for myself. It was just as amazing as she explained, the staff is friendly and courteous and well informed. Petal Thank You for the wonderful breakfast each and every morning. It was a great start to our day. Miss Susan, Brian and staff thank you for the wonderful stay and we look forward to seeing you in 2011.
