I was at the Cara Suites for 10 days in February 2006 and had a very comfortable stay. Guyanese hotels are generally not up to international standards in terms of service or amenities, so Cara Suites came as a pleasant surprise in that it provided most of the amenities of an international hotel including cable TV, minibar, free newspaper delivery, laundry, high-speed internet and a high standard of service. I stayed in two levels of rooms: at first I was in a standard room which had air-conditioning and a "minibar" (a very well-stocked full size refrigerator), but no cooking facilities (see photos of the standard room). Later I upgraded to a two bedroom suite with a kitchenette, which was very roomy and fully equipped for cooking. The beds are full sized and firm and comfortable. The air conditioning works well and the rooms are clean and bright. High-speed internet connections are provided free of charge in all rooms. There are coffee and tea making facilities and irons and ironing boards in all rooms. A large bottled water is provided free of charge and there are more in the minibar. There is a common room with a computer with internet connection and a small library of books and magazines on the second floor. A standard room is $100 US per night and a two bedroom suite is $135 US for single occupancy or $155 for multiple occupancy. The two bedroom suite would be appropriate for a family of 4. The onsite restaurant and bar provide good food at reasonable prices ($7 US for a very big breakfast and around $10 for dinner). Room service is also available. It is a short walk to downtown shopping and restaurants or the 24-hour doorman can call you a taxi. Local calls are free and the newspapers are delivered to your door each morning. The minbar prices are extremely reasonable (beers around $1.50, for example). The service was great, and extremely efficient by Guyanese standards. There is no elevator, so if you cannot handle the stairs ask for a room on the first floor, which is only up one flight of stairs. The only gripe I had was the loud music that could be heard on Saturday night from a nearby night club. It went on until around 1:00 AM. All in all, I would highly recommend Cara Suites for a stay in Georgetown.
