I selected the Cara Suites, Georgetown, Guyana, based solely on TripAdvisor recommendations. It was my last stop on a 17 nation two-week, solo-traveler, non-stop “island hopping” trip. I found the hotel to be a delightful British Colonial era style property with a moderate-sized restaurant serving extremely good food and wine. Wait staff were impeccable with service for the two dinners that I had there. The sleeping room was large with a couch, sitting area and television (limited channels but I was there to see Guyana not FoxNews!) It was clean and cheerful. The bed was very comfortable. The a/c kept the room cool without any issues. The outside area around the hotel was clean and the buildings were maintained quite well. There is a walking promenade approx one mile long which starts at the front corner and passes a very well maintained gardens area. Cara Suites is situated in a very beautiful, safe setting. The only negative is the lack of an elevator. Porter service for my luggage was available to me on my arrival. While standing near the hotel, taking a sunset picture of a very large house directly across the street from the hotel, a couple stopped to ask me why I was taking the image of the house. I advised them, “Because it is so beautiful.” We talked and I ultimately joined them on the balcony of their “beautiful house”, overlooking the promenade and gardens, to share drinks and snacks and stories about their families’ heritage. I will return to Guyana and will stay in the Cara Suites!
