“Uninspired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2007

This hotel is in a classic building in the financial center of Bogota. I normally stay at this hotel's sister property, the Charleston, where I've become accustomed to excellent, very personalized service. The Casa Medina offers a much colder and less inspired service to its guests. Hotel employees walk by you without greeting, the front desk staff hardly smiles, and the security guy in the front door looks at you like an intruder whenever you come in. The hotel is in a pretty busy corner so it is likely your room will get some street noise unless it faces the courtyard. The rooms are good but don't have A/C, so on a hot day you might have to open the windows, letting the pollution and noise in. On the positive side, there are many good restaurants within walking distance and the location is very convenient for business travellers.

“Great place in Bogota”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2007

this place is exquisite and i would return any time!

Elegant Old brick building redone to the finest level of finish but kept it's historic character. In Chapinero, which is a very nice residential neighborhood just north of downtown. many Fine Shops and restaurants in walking distance and i felt safe and secure during my entire trip. I ate great Fusion Asian food at Wok- star a block away.

Staff is very attentive and the food was great!

not cheap, but you can shop for rates. i walked to the Grocer a block away for Water and Wine.

Don't miss the Gold Museum. they have Symphony and Opera. it is a really cool town and we made Casa Medina our headquarters for almost a week. then off to it's sister Hotel in Cartagena called St Terese. also very nice!

  • Liked — the historic flavor of the building
  • Disliked — if you room on the front street, traffic noise can bother you

“Lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2007

We stayed in the Hotel Casa Medina for 3 nights recently while in Bogota on business. The hotel is not cheap but I got a good rate for a Jr. Suite on Expedia.com (much lower than the hotel's website). The building is a beautiful colonial mansion and is tastefully decorated with modern furnishings. The 2 styles mix well. The room was very large, attractive and comfortable and had a real fireplace. The bathroom was large as well and had all the amenities. As others have noted, the service is very good, security is tight but unobtrusive, and the flower arrangements are gorgeous (they are done in-house). Someone from the company I was visiting came by to drop off a package for me at the front desk. The front desk called me in the room to ask if I would accept the package. We used drivers arranged through the hotel for the transfers to and from the airport and they were friendly and professional. The hotel is located in what is known as "Zona G" which I was told stands for "Zona Gourmet". There are many good restaurants within the 2 blocks behind the hotel. Our experience here was excellent and will definately stay at Casa Medina on our next visit to Bogota.

“excellent colonial mansion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2007

I can only confirm what was already written on a previous review. We, without asking had an excellent, very large room with fireplace and all.. and huge comfortable bed. True that there is some traffic noise. There are several good restaurants in the area within an easy walk and you always feel safe. The hotel will call a taxi for you (no extra charge) but we also felt very safe getting our own.
Breakfast, included, and during the week served in the lovely quaint dining room , was excellent. With a menu available, you could order whatever you wanted.. no limits. The fresh fruit was very special indeed.
Service was very good .
Negative points nevertheless were the bar.. had to be opened just for us and the drinks were not made very well.. We felt and were quite alone..
The reception area was small although there were reception areas available if needed. It was much too modern for the otherwise colonial atmosphere and furnishings and not comfortable at all. Too bad there were no spa facilities.
Another plus though were the beautiful flower arrangements (even in the public bathrooms).
I would definitely stay here again..
