The renovation of this hotel is nearly complete. The remainder of the main lobby opened as we left. The decor is attractive and contemporary. The desk staff were all very helpful and courteous. Our room was attractive and comfortable and the view of the mountains was lovely. Our only complaint was regarding the attention of the wait staff in the dining room in the evening who should be trained to a little more attentive to diners, especially if only two or three tables are occupied. However, when my sister and I had problems with our meals on two different occasions the waiters listened and comped part of each meal. If you need a van for sightseeing or moving a group around ask the front desk to arrange for Don Mario to take you. He is very good and honest. The hotel is adjacent to a very nice shopping mall and only a few blocks (safe walking) to a fun area of great shops and restaurants.

A potentially five star experience, dragged down by maintenance problems.

Had an updated suite, large, well decorated, plasma viewable from bed and couch, handsome bathroom.

But: the toilet broke, the TV channel control system crashed about five times in three days, the windows were being washed with noxious chemicals that made it impossible to be in the room, and yes... the hammering, all day... hammering.

I do understand that a hotel needs to wash windows, and do repairs/updates. But, it wasn't what I was paying them for, to be a part of the drama.

Staff charming, breakfast delicious, but... not worth the trouble.

After staying at the Bogota Plaza in Bogota, Colombia I would definitely not stay at Hacienda Royal again.

The lobby and building is very nice but the rooms and general experience are nothing 'royal' or worth experiencing again. The main positive item to note is that Hacienda Royal is connected to a large local mall which gives you something to do in the evenings and on the weekends. Otherwise, the experience is fairly normal. The gym in the basement is small. Currency exchange was taxing. Getting a taxi was arduous. The restaurant/bar was tight. And the rooms were tight.

Stay at Bogota Plaza instead.

This hotel was chosen by the company I was visiting because it is in a safe area and the mall attached provides easy access to anything a traveler might want. There is a beautiful little park/church/restaurant area just a few blocks walk. It is safe to walk in this area. There is a military base within 1/2 mile which I was told makes this area even safer. If you are a European or North American traveler, you should stay at this hotel or somewhere as safe and pleasant. I enjoyed the breakfast. There is a small grocery in the mall. Food court in the mall, etc. I was able to get a temporary phone card in the mall for 15 bucks for my unlocked phone. Colombian people are very kind. Bogota has wonderful sights downtown, but don't stay out after dark downtown.
