We started our Colombian trip with 5 nights at the Sofitel in Bogota's Zona Rosa district.
The hotel is fabulous, rooms and facilities excellent - the most impressive is the staff. All staff from the Reception to the Concierge to the housekeeping members were extremely friendly and helpful. We have limited Spanish - our efforts were appreciated and the Reception and concierge staff spoke very good English.
Within a few blocks are numerous restaurants, bars and shops.
We used their car service to visit La Candelaria (Bogota Bike Tours are very good) and to take us to play golf.
The Sofitel was definately 5 star.

I had doubts about booking this hotel as I avoid business hotels feeling that they are too cookie cutter and lack atmosphere.But this hotel did everything right proving that service makes the experience. From the moment we checked in all the staff members called us by name. The first day at breakfast the hostess asked if there was anything we'd like for breakfast not on the buffet. Seeing only tropical fruit I said that I'd like berries and the next day they had them foor me (and each day after that). Our laundry was done with such care that I felt like sending out more just to see my clothes perfectly ironed and folded. The rooms were comfortable, with great beds and they used a vibrant colour scheme to give it some local flavour.Each of our needs in the design of the room or the on-site service seemed to be anticipated and delivered. We stay in hotels more than 100 nights per year and this property is doing it right.

I recently had a four night stay at this hotel and can say it was entirely pleasant. Very well trained staff who all had a strong service committment to the clients. The property is immaculately kept and fresh flowers and scents changed daily. The location is well situated in a safe area with many excellent restaurants and entertainment venues...shopping is top of the line in the area and as good as any large international city. I felt it was good value for the money (although others may feel it is a little high) but I prefer this size of hotel where you are known by name and there is a high level of "concierge" involvement. The small touches and amenities are more relevant to me than a big gym or a pool....I prefer to go specifically to separate facilites for that and there a number of spinning class gyms etc very near to this hotel as well.

I chose the Sofitel based upon the reviews here and the reputation of the brand. (this is my first stay at a Sofitel) I must say you can definitely feel the effort to go above and beyond just "good service" at this hotel. It was truly exceptional. They were all just as friendly, professional, and helpful as I could ever want.

The hotel is not huge, in a good way. It feels somewhat like a boutique hotel. It has a business center/TV lounge that's cozy and has both a PC and Mac. The breakfast room/bar is attractive and again very comfortable. The food served at breakfast was very good, especially the homemade yogurt. The room was not huge but a good size and well appointed. Best of all was the big huge walk-in shower with it's own window.

The location is fantastic!! It's on a quiet street just steps from lots of good restaurants and stores. It was my first time to Colombia and like many I suppose I had thoughts about the history of crime and violence. Well, in this immediate neighborhood you'd never think it had happened. It's a leafy well-kept area with lots of inviting places and people walking about.

I liked it all so much I'm thinking about going back!
