“Best Hostel ive ever seen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

It's e very friendly not to big hostel in candelaria in Bogota. It is very good located to reach all attractions around Bogota. Candelaria is very save and you can find several cheap restaurants. Alegrias is very clean and offers a very good value for your money. Moreover the owner is very friendly and helpflull. The atmosphere is very familiar and you just feel confortable. It is really one of the best hostels ive ever seen!

Room Tip: Dorms are better than 4 bed rooms. There are incredible double rooms with a great view over the city...

“Good Hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We had a good experience staying in this hostel. The owner, Alegria is very warm and friendly. We happened to lose our room keys while we were here. We had to break the lock to get into the room and Alegria did not even charge us for the broken lock! How uncommonly kind! When we first arrived things did not go smoothly but as soon as Alegria showed up, she made sure that the rest of our stay was completely problem free. The rooms are clean, decent sized and comfortable. Bogota is cold but you can get the room with the fireplace or snuggle under the many warm blankets that are available. I am usually afraid of dogs but the two at the hostel are the friendliest I have ever seen. The staff is friendly and helpful. They don't speak English but Alegria does. It is close to most major attractions in Bogota. It's not a party hostel so if you want a leisurely place to stay, this is it. Stay here if you stay in Bogota. We highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the fireplace or extra blankets to keep warm.

“A Great Place to Be!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

I loved my experience at this hostel. It's only a short walk to Bolivar Square and all the markets. There are also wonderful restaurants all around this hostel. Clean rooms. When I go back to Bogota, this is where I will stay.

“Alegria's Hostel es muy buena”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

Lovely building, clean, comfortable, lots of communal space. Two friendly dogs, good showers, great location. The people working there did not speak English, but were very friendly and helpful. Just as we left we met Alegria, who does speak English and is super lovely, and incredibly knowledgeable about Colombia and other cities and hostels. We stayed in a private room for 2 nights and a dorm for one, and both were fine (when we arrived we were not able to have the private room we had booked, there seemed to be a problem with some guy who was meant to have left but somehow hadn't...but the reception guy was very apologetic and we were given space in the dorm instead).

“Cozy hostel at old town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

A cozy hostel at a traditional house with a friendly owner Alegria and dogs.

Location - situated at very nice part of the old city of Bogota. Safe (at least during the day), quiet and nice area at a street full of small traditional colorful houses.
Room - since it is a traditional Spanish house, some rooms have a window on the roof only. Dorms are spacey, and private rooms are good. The bathroom is shared, but the biggest and most beautiful decorated. Very clean.
Common areas quite big, free Internet, cable TV
Big kitchen, breakfast included and the breakfast was simple, but nice.
The owner Alegria is very nice and offers to join her and her friends going out. Other staff not always know English, but helpful when needed.

The only problems were:
Reservation system - it is a big mess with the reservations: reservations booked are not always at the system, and reservation at the system are not always the actual ones. Likewise you do not know if you will have a room at the first hostel or the second one.
No payment by credit card.
The door bell is really loud and annoying - during a day it is not a problem, but at night it wakes you up each time someone arrives.

Still I was really glad I stayed at this hostel.

Room Tip: Choose a room with old city view at the first hostel
