“La Presidente Hotel in LaPaz, Bolivia is very good considering it is in Bolivia.”

My husband and I arrived at the Presidente with our tour group from Copacabana. It was almost 10:00 pm when we checked in. There was a water pressure problem that night, but we were moved to a lower floor. Problem solved. We were in a clean, huge suite with a great view of the mountains.

Considering that we were in Bolivia, we did not expect the hotel to be a true 5-star, but it was the best hotel we stayed in on our Peru-Bolivia trip.

The breakfast buffet was a wide assortment including a chef to make omelets. No complaints heard.

“CAN'T AGREE, VERY, VERY ORDINARY”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

Of all the hotels we stayed in in a four country 25 day SA experience, Hotel Presidente takes the prize as the worst by far; Room/s 1008 and 1108 -2 nights, 2 Aussie couples;;
Pros:
Floor to ceiling windows overlooking the city, fabulous views at nightime,
Restaurant on 16th level has even more spectacular views,
Service in restaurant, very efficient and friendly
Good location, handy to city centre.
Cons:
Discovered that the room was actually a suite, very nice, however, had specifically requested NON SMOKING, arrived after 13 hour overland trip - late at night and greeted with overpowering smell of cigarettes,
Room very, very tired, past use-by date;
Went to the much reviewed 16th floor restaurant (after long journey) to be informed that the chef was catering off-site for a 1k crowd of people the following day and the only menu available was the lunchtime menu, which in lieu of any alterternative, we accepted. Rubbery steak (the excellent and apologetic service some way made up for the inconvenience,
Hotel advertises free WiFi, when we couldn't establish a connection, went to reception to find help. Reception has a very long counter, with a Cashier at furtherest end.
Appreciating that the receptioni staff might be busy as counter unattended, waited, and waited, Cashiier did not look up, even though she wasn't serving any customers. Finally approached cashier who still didn't look up until asked about reception staff, who she then called from a back room.
Reception staff unable to assist with Wi Fi connection but referred us to three free-access computors in lobby area.
Possibly because the Chef was busy (see above), the following morning we faced a breakfast selection which left a lot to be desired- no toaster for bread - and very limited options available.
Upon arrival, the previous evening, and making our way to our room (1108) situated at the end of corridor, right at access door to fire escape. The fire escape door was wide open and there were two empty large beer bottles lying on their sides on the concerte floor (giving rise to the possibility that a homeless person make have slept there!)
I cannot recommend this hotel based upon our experience, subjective I know, but it is what we encountered.

How many hotels in the world let you check in at 6.15 am in the morning, have a clean comfortable room ready for you and a great buffet breakfast? After 10 hours on the overnight bus from Uyuni we coudl not have wished for a better place to stay.

Excellent location, helpful staff, swimming pool etc etc

HIGHLY recommended.

“Well placed 5 star (by South American standards) hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2010

My wife and I (room 1305)along with our Canadian friends(1306) stayed here on the nights of 10th/11th March 2010. It was selected as part of an Independent tour by Adventure World (Aust) and again they got it right. Whilst perhaps not 5 star by some standards, the Presidente is a bit tired, but friendly, helpful staff, clean comfortable , well equipped rooms, good breakfast, brilliant restaurant, set in the most chaotic traffic I have ever seen.Make sure you do a city tour and walk through the markets. The altitude is trying, so take it easy.
