“Very basic very bland”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

El Dorado achieved the status of worst breakfast in our 6 weeks of travel. Don't wast your time even attending. Rooms are dirty, dark and dated. We moved to Hotel Las Brisas and it was in a much better area and better rooms. The area around El Dorado on a Sunday is very quiet and i wouldn't venture too far away as it isn't safe considering it is in an affluent(ish) area.

The furniture in the bar could be taken out of the set from Mad Men.

“Clean, quiet, great location, but in need of a renovation...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We spent 4 nights at El Dorado. We liked the hotel and absolutely loved the location. It is set a bit away from the touristy area packed full of tourist booking offices (and tourists), but that neighborhood is still only a 15-20 minute walk away or easily accessible by micro. However, just a few blocks downhill is a more upscale area that has many wonderful cafes and restaurants, and this is just a short safe walk away. The hotel itself has a friendly and helpful staff, a good breakfast included in the price, cable TV, hot showers, and free luggage storage. Unfortunately, the furniture is more than a bit dated, but everything is clean so it's not really a bother at all. This is good value in a great location.

“A central, budget hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

The rooms here are very cramped. Initially we had a triple room although one of our friends sloped off to a 5* for 2 nights (couldn't hack the budget hotel pace) and we were given a small twin. When we said we'd have the triple thinking we'd have more room the reception told us that they would put another mattress in our room as that's what they do for triples! Really the room as so cramped if 3 of us had stayed in there we would not have been able to put our bags anywhere and would have had to walk over the mattress on the floor! The towels looked a little grubby. My bed was so sprung I thought I was going to touch the floor, my complaint brought the maintenance man with a spare door to prop underneath it - the bed kept sliding off it during the night.
It's dated, it's budget and the breakfast is not great, but it's central but we had prepaid one night from the UK so I would say, look around as there's got to be better places to stay for just a fraction more.
Our friend said the 5* Europa was lovely when she rejoined us!

“built in the 60s and nothing has changed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2011

this hotel was built in the 60s and nothing has changed. The rooms are reasonably comfortable and warm but its very tired.
All of the linens and towels are threadbare and chewing gum grey.
Staff are mediocre - not particularly helpful and everything seems like an effort. Its like they have better things to do (ie stand around gossiping) than help guests. I had a tour company leave a message for me at 6pm - but it was not given to me when i returned at 8pm - instead reception decided to ring me at 11pm to give me the message (WTF?!?!).
There is also major construction going on outside the hotel - which goes from 7am - 9pm. Breakfast is again mediocre - the eggs are always cold (and look like they've been there for at least an hour) and the bread is often hard.

“Pretty good for the $”

Nice hotel in the centre of La Paz. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are basic but clean and well maintained. We stay there on multiple occasions and here are a few tips...
Tip 1. if u want good Wi Fi ask for a room on level 3 :-).
Tip 2. Ask for a room at the back of the hotel, the traffic gets noisy early, very early!!!
Tip 3. The included breakfast is so so...expect to have to get something else.
Tip 4. Don't get room 606...the bed above squeaks loudly which can make for a long night if u have some love birds above!
