My husband and I stayed at Posada de los Pajaros for a portion of our honeymoon trip in South America. The hotel is absolutely charming, and we loved the location: In a relatively quiet strip of La Barra beach pretty much equidistant between Punta del Este and Jose Ignacio.

Our large room (ocean view with a jacuzzi) was terrific, and the hotel itself was great. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the pool and the Atlantic? It hardly gets better than that!

What really made the experience special was the attentive, helpful staff. They provided beach towels and beach chairs (which they let us just keep in our rental car for three days), posted post cards for us, and made restaurant reservations. They even sent a bottle of champagne to our room on arrival, to help celebrate our honeymoon. Incredibly thoughtful! (Also, for whatever it's worth, we're a gay couple.)

I would recommend Pajaros to anyone traveling to Punta del Este. It made our visit memorable and special.

If I had to say anything negative, I'd just say that we were very glad we'd rented a car. There's a great beach right at the hotel, but walking to restaurants/bars, etc., would have been a bit of a challenge.

We were in Punta del Este just for one night, most of the hotels had closed up for the season and the resort was sad and empty, the bad weather did not help matters. We drove through the resort and came to La Barra a few kilometers further on. By chance we stopped at the Posada de los Pajaros, a new, small hotel with 16 bedrooms which is situated just off the main road and has a view of the beach and ocean. We were greeted by the General Manager who was charming, spoke excellent english and showed us the rooms which are pleasant, comfortable and clean. There were some very nice touches in the decoration and service which made us feel welcome and not at all in an impersonal hotel room. In the evening we had a drink in the lounge area where we were also offered a choice of board games and music. Breakfast was a delicious buffet and again the service was with a smile and very good. Very nice crockery which made you feel at home rather than in a hotel. The little things that make all the difference!

Regrettably our stay was very short and the weather atrocious so we were not able to take full advantage of all the facilities which included a pool, garden, sunbeds all with view of the ocean. I would recommend this hotel without hesistation.
