Remember this is the Middle East and a very poor country, so finding somewhere like the Arabia Felix was a great find. Built in traditional style and somewhat like a maze once inside, the rooms are basic but functional. Some come with bathroom ensuite, best to ask for these and also ask for a western style bathroom. I think some rooms share a bathroom. Room was clean, shower worked and had hot water (unusual for some hotels here) and good sized double bed.

Breakfast in the courtyard was help yourself (bread, yougurt, honey, fruit, jam) not extensive but - this is a poor country. Only 25 euros a night and right in the old city so great location.

I stayed in the Arabia Felix hotel for a total of 8 nights. The hotel is in a great location and is in easy walking distance of the souk.

I found the rooms to be quite comfortable. The shared bathrooms were ok although the hot water was a bit hit and miss!

The staff were very friendly and had a good sense of humour.

The meals served in the restaurant were tasty and the bread baked on the premises was deliciious.

  • Liked — the location and the quirky rooms
  • Disliked — hot water wasn't always reliable/noise from the street

Very good place to start your trip in Yemen/ Sanaa, very friendly staff. Rooms are fine, toilets some not very nice but usable. The location is good, and the building is a typical architectural style from the old Sanaa town.

We booked a room in this hotel through UTC, one of the leading travel agencies in Yemen, right through the net, comfortably from home. Each night was exactly at 22 euros, which is roughly the price the hotel charges if you book directly with them. Altogether, we stayed here 5 nights, at 3 different times, so we experienced all their 3 buidings. But make it clear ; no matter in which building you are, the muezzin call at 4 am will surely get its way to you, as if someone is yelling with a speaker right next to your bed. There is no way you can escape. The building itself is one of those wonderful mud-made-cartoon-like that make the unique charm of old Sana'a. The first room had shared bathroom, the second had it inside, and the third had it outside but only to be used by us. So it makes sense to ask for what kind of room you'd like better. None of the rooms had AC and even in may, we did not feel we might need one. Rooms are cleaned every day, soap and toilet paper are provided as well as hot water. The owner spoke french like a french and most of the staff understood enough english to make your stay a smooth one. The restaurant served good meals and it was nearly our only option in the area.
Not so bad hotel in a wonderful old buiding, serving nice dishes (VERY) close to a (TOO)near mosque. At 22 euros, you'd love it. We did.

We used Sanaa as a base for our travel in Yemen and saw good recommendation for this hotel from our guidebook. We booked two rooms for 3 separete nights and we specifically asked for private toilets. It turned out some of their so-called private toilets are outside of the rooms. They are "private" in the sense that they were assigned to the specific rooms. One of the toilets assigned to us were tiny and were clogged up. (Some of the toilets we checked out were in the room but were arabian style squat toilets). Though the rooms were generally clean, none of us had a good night sleep because of the mattress (and partly because of the noise).

If having a western style en-suite toilet is important to you, make sure you specify this AND you do not checked in too late to secure what you think you have booked in case you run into a group.

This was what happened to us. On our return to Sanaa after travelling in the south, we arrived around 4 pm. We were given the room with the clogged up toilet again which we did not uish to have. After a long fuss of explaining why the room was unacceptable and checking out different rooms, the hotel was not able to give us a room that we booked (one that can accommodate 3 beds and with a private toilet - that works properly). What was really upsetting was the hotel staff sent us off to another hotel promising that that hotel had the room we asked for. When we arrived, we found out this hotel did not have private toilets at all in the whole hotel!!

How the story ended was a long one, but we were pretty exhausted and very upset to say the least. We do not consider the hotel offer good value for the facility that they offer. However, since the quality of their rooms varies a bit, arrive early so you can choose a decent one. If not, it depends on you luck what you are offered.
