“Comfortable, not extravagant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Stayed 4 nights at this hotel. Husband was on business and I was tourist. Very nice greeting with cardamom coffee upon check in. Opted for breakfast included for an additional fee. Good choice. Breakfast buffet is plentiful and good. Rooms are small by American standards. Bathroom nice with large rain shower head, but drainage design is bad and got bathroom floor wet. Bed is situated where a/c blows directly on head. Bed was extremely comfortable with great pillows and comforter. Really cushy.

Enjoyed the lobby drinking and snacking area. Wifi enabled as well. Live music in this area in the evening was fabulous. Noticed prostitutes meeting business men several times, but maybe this is common here? I'm not sure. Not too appealing, but subtle.

My husband prefers staying at Intercontinental or Sheraton. Would try that next time.

Room Tip: Choose Emirates Palace for top Abu Dhabi experience. Intercontinental is number 2, then Sheraton Abu...

Dear Madam,

Thank you for staying at Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi but also for taking the time to write your comments. We are happy to know that you had a pleasant stay.
Our F&B team is always trying to offer the best when it comes to Breakfast Buffet by giving guests a varied choice to suit different tastes.
The Lobby of the hotel do get more lively in the evening especially with the live performance of the pianist and Cello player - as you nicely wrote "that it was fabulous", therefore many people living in Abu Dhabi do meet there before heading to other dining venues.
We hope that you will be visiting us again. Kindly mention the AC draft upon your check-in and the Front Office team will ensure you are allocated a room with a much suitable layout.

Best Regards,
Shaun P.
General Manager

“Very good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Very nice modern rooms although we found the shower a bit of a triumph of style over substance as it spread water all over the bathroom floor. No proper reading lamps over the bed.
Excellent breakfast - really enjoyed the fresh fruit in particular.
Good swimming pool. We had the 'business lunch' in the revolving restaurant and enjoyed the views but were not overly impressed with the food (note that 16% is added to the price for service and tourist tax plus a bottle of water cost 37 dirhams).
Our card key would not operate to open our room just before check-out and we had a rather Monty Pythonesque procession of people, none of whom would believe that the card would not open the room. So first stewards and then engineers came up only equipped with a card before they finally admitted that we were right and eventually managed to produce an old-fashioned master key. By this time we were getting woried about missing our plane! All very friendly but it is actually irritating not to be believed.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for choosing Le Royal Meridien for your stay in Abu Dhabi.
We are glad you have enjoyed our F&B offerings.
We do pride ourselves for housing the only licensed revolving restaurant in the city and appreciate your positive comments on the same. Please note that the 16 % are municipality taxes that we have to apply.
We have surely taken note about the reading lamp not being sufficient. Hopefully you will be happy by the upgraded one on your next trip.
About the card key not opening, I apologize for the inconvenience it had caused you. You do appreciate that technology has also its downside and the procedure to open a guest room with another key tend to have some Policy & Procedure implications that require a number of people involved. It definitely does not mean that we do not believe our guests.
Please do come again, we will be happy to welcome you back and assure you of our best services.

Best regards,
Shaun P.

“Excellent hotel, but if you need a Club Room beware.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I have stayed in this hotel a number of times in the last couple of years and I am a Starwood Gold Card holder; however, one thing bugs me about this hotel.

You book a Club Room and the rooms are great; however, the "Club Lounge" is the right hand end of the foyer Lounge, fully open to the public.

Your consumption of tea, coffee, etc. during the day, evening drinks and snacks is free in this area, but it is a public area.

Also at Breakfast time, there is only a limited supply of croissants, etc, whereas in every other Starwood Hotel I stay in, there is at least one hot option, plus toast, fruit, yogurt, etc.

Should you wish to have Breakfast in the Restaurant, its an additional Dhs116 (£19.95 - US$31.60), which I think is unacceptable, bearing in mind you have paid for a Club Room.

I have pointed this out to the Hotel, with the result that I am told that, "In the future there will be a proper Club Lounge".

Room Tip: High floor, where there is less road noise.

Dear Tony,

Thank you for being a patron of Le Royal Meridien, we do appreciate your business and your loyalty to the brand.
We do understand your frustration with regards the lack of privacy of the Club Lounge; the hotel will be undergoing some refurbishment works very soon and the issue of a separate Club lounge will definitely be addressed.
Please note that being a Starwood Gold member, you are also entitled to have breakfast at L'Opera - the all-day-dining restaurant - where a wide selection of breakfast favourite is served daily.

Once again thank you for staying with us,
Please do not hesitate to ask for me or any other member of the management team on your next visit, we will be happy to assist in the best way we can.

Best regards,
Shaun P.

“Comfortable hotel in the center of Abu Dhabi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

The Royal Meridien is a very comfortable and cozy hotel with excellent service.
The room was big, with the most comfortable bed, and the bathroom was equipped with all facilities and amenities you need.
The hotel is not new anymore, but it has its own charme, and the whole property is very clean and well taken care of.

Buffet breakfast was good with plenty of choice, however a little bit overpriced.

The hotel is more suitable for business travellers than for leisure guests, but it is nevertheless a safe choice to stay in Abu Dhabi, also because of the location overlooking the shore.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review of Le Royal Meridien.
Your nice comments are highly appreciated.
Being a city Hotel, our central location do not allow a beach access but we do try to make up for it by offering diner cruiseson Board the hotel own Yacht, the Shuja.
Next time you are visiting, please allow us to treat you to dinner on board Shuja where you can admire Abu Dhabi skyline from the sea.

“Pretty decent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Pretty decent hotel.
Good breakfast buffet - centrally located.
Staff is attentive. They missed a charge on my final bill... I had to bring it up to them (to let them know they didn't charge me for car service)... Not a biggie.

Rooms could use a refresh, but they're still clean and comfortable.

Stay in the tower.
