Four Seasons Hotel Damascus keeps on amazing me.
There is a French sentence that I don’t know how to translate it :”Enchanter un monde desanchanté.” This is what Four Seasons Hotel ,Damascus is doing all the time.”
My daughter and I spent 3 days during Christmas vacation. At our arrival ,we were greeted by name before reaching the front desk, by Mr. Ali Mohammad who welcomed us with his lovely Egyptian accent
A kids club was newly opened , Marie Rose a lovely friendly woman is in charge ,and knowing that she’s from Aleppo ,a city much known as the kitchen of Syria, I asked her to teach me how to prepare Makdous ,an aubergine pickles with hot pepper ,nuts and olive oil . And whenever my daughter went down to play in the kids club, Marie Rose was always keeping me for a cup of tea.
Each day I had my breakfast at Safran restaurant, and they kept on playing an international music .but for me as Lebanese and Arab , it was inconceivable not to listen to Fayrouz (a famous Lebanese Diva )in the morning. So I asked the staff to change the music ,they told me that they only play international music here .
One of the hotel’s managers noticed me arguing with the staff, and asked if I needed any assistance .He was Mr Anwar ,the Halabi Restaurant Manager.
And to my great pleasure Mr Anwar was also a big fan of Fayrouz and Ziad Al Rahbani (Fayrouz son , an artist as well) and finally I end up listening to the latest album of Fayrouz (Eh Fi Amal) while enjoying my breakfast. Thanks Mr Anwar.
One recommendation for gourmet: Oum Ali is an Arabic dessert that I adore .The best Oum Ali you could possibly eat is at Safran restaurant. It’s made of milk , cream and honey with puff bread inside and pistachios ,a mouthwatering dessert .Highly recommended…
My room was cleaned twice/day,and my car cleaned every day, WOW, I love that………….
But The highlight of my trip was: the bed, an extremely comfortable bed.The Four Seasons Hotels are rightly famed for their Legendary Bed . Their mattress is an absolute dream. , I found it to be cozier than that of my home.
Unable to pop the bed into my suitcase and take it home though, I just wish I could afford to buy one...
Once thing that I didn’t like ,is the internet , 15 dollars per hour is expensive especially for people like me who use the net extensively.
Finally, all I can say is: “When I stay at the Four Seasons Hotel, Damascus, I am among friends.”
RANA TANISSA.
