Despite claiming to be in the city centre the above hotel Shezan is some 6-8 kilometres away - in a dusty suburb with lots of construction nearby. Also the photographs and description on websites bear little resemblance to what I found. I turned up at this hotel to find it very run-down - torn carpets, dingy corridors, musty-smelling rooms with cheap ill-fitting bed-covers, mismatched old furniture, droopy light-permitting curtains, peeling paint, stairwells cluttered with mattresses and chairs, no lifts, a third of the channels on the tv were soft-porn, etc. It is certainly not of 3-star standards, more like 2-star though the price is not.
I felt uncomfortable and unsafe enough to check-out immediately after getting to my room - my first time ever in a lifetime of travel - and am still seeking a refund given the misleading advertising. In my haste to get out of there I forgot to take photos to prove my point. I soon found a better hotel, a true 3-star, in the city centre - which is about 15 minutes away from Shezan by taxi. Its price was about the same, plus it included a hearty breakfast (which the Shezan did not) and saved me lots of time and a small fortune on taking taxis given it was walking distance to the souks, corniche, museums, fort, etc. So you can do better in Doha for less than the Shezan. If you have no choice but to stay there, please don't forget to take photos to add to this site.
