My wife and I were booked into Le Grand (that's a misnomer) Hotel by our employer in Doha. They selected this hotel because our permanent accomodations were not quite ready for us, and Le Grand claims to have "well equipped" kitchens in each room. Given this statement, our company thought we would feel a little more at home, since we would have to stay in the hotel for at least 2 weeks.
We got into Doha late at night, checked into our room and crashed, after 24 hours of travel. When we woke in the morning, we took a better look at the kitchen in our room. It had a fridge, 2 burner hot plate and sink, for appliances. This was encouraging until we opened up the cupboards. The only things in this "well equipped" kitchen were:
2 plates, 2 spoons, 1 butter knife, 1 fork!
We asked the front desk about getting more ammenities for the kitchen (ie. pot, pan, another fork, dish soap, dish cloth, etc.) and were told the hotel doesn't have those things. So, I then e-mailed a manager at the hotel and didn't receive a response (typical of the professionalism I had come to expect from this place). So, I then e-mailed the "info@" address and did get a response the next day. The lady repsonding told me they didn't have these items and that it would not be usual for a hotel to offer more than the items we already had. When I questioned why they provided the 2 burners - since there was nothing to cook on them with - she told me they don't provide pots and pans because they want guests to eat (and pay) and the hotel restaurant. She proceeded to tell me if I wanted to discuss it with the manager -I should contact him. I then replied by telling her I originally e-mailed him and didn't even get the courtesy of a response. So, I asked her to get him to forward my concerns along to him and have him contact me.
If you've read this far into my rant, I assume you can guess I never got a call, e-mail, nor a knock on the door from this guy.
Long story short, Doha is growing by leaps and bounds, and with that comes an abundance of hotels. The hotel choice in this city is astounding! So, there is no reason to stay at Le Grand Hotel if you are visiting Doha, Qatar. Once they get money from you, they don't give a crap about you as a guest. Let my experience be warning enough and don't stay at Le Grand!
