We had the three bedroom suite and that was very spacious. When you look at the details, the kitchen is nowhere near pretty for use, and the bathrooms/ toilets have broken parts. For example the sink was shaking if you touched it, and leaking water. For the price paid, it was too much I think.

If you do not need all the space, head for Kempinski behind as they both are in a quiet area and close to everything in tiny Doha.

I spent 6 weeks in Doha in Jan 2011, and found the Somerset to be a very good apartment. There is not a great deal in Doha at present and this block is of very good quality. The included breakfast is adequate, not over the top with choice, but sufficient, and of good quality, none the less.

The apartments themselves are spacious, clean, well furnished. Everything worked well and the room attendants provided excellent service. WiFi was very good. The gym downstairs is well equipped for most people. The equipment is in good condition.

It is conveniently located next to the W Hotel, which is good for nightlife.

Overall, I would recommend the Somerset in Doha and I would stay there again.

I moved into the Somerset as a monthly resident and to be very honest, it is far below average.

In summary

What is good about it:

1) The staff at the front desk are polite and helpful
2) There is an onsite maintenance and engineering team to fix all the problems
3) On site gym is functional
4) Pool is functional but literally a hole in the ground in an oddly shaped building attached to the main building; almost an afterthought.
5) Kids nursery/play area
6) Reasonable laundry service
7) Room service available from the restaurant

What is bad about it;

1) Threadbare towels of a poor quality
2) Worn bed linen
3) The stench coming from the kitchen/laundry room is intolerable/nauseating
4) My first allocated apartment was in shocking condition (filthy doors, cracked tiles, peeling wall paper, dry rot in the door frames). When I complained loudly enough on my first day for them to fix the problems, they moved me to a new apartment
5) General state of repair is poor (I cannot recall a day in the first 2 weeks when something did not fall off the wall or break when used e.g. the oven racks. toilet seat, no hot water etc.)
6) TV Channels are average and reception is poor
7) No wireless and cable internet connectivity is EXTREMELY slow.

To their credit, they have attended to all the problems identified very swiftly, however the nauseating smell in the kitchen/laudry area remains and it would be enough for anyone to seek a new residence.

I entered with high expectations, given the money that I am paying every month, and now I find myself looking for a new place to stay.

A definite miss on the residential apartments.

This was a pleasant property. The staff was very good, and the American Grill restaurant was nice.

A couple of notes: For some reason, the electric water heater is on an unidentified switch. When we arrived in our 3 bedroom unit, we looked around the unit and inadvertantly turned off the switch. After a couple of cold showers, we figured out what had happend.

Also, I saw a review the complained of the smell of cigarette smoke. None of us were smokers; we noticed the ashtrays, but didn't smell cigarettes at all.

No wi-fi, but the Somerset provides wired network connectivity in the rooms. It provide access, but was slow.
