We have just returned from a weekend break at the Chedi (Friday morning to Saturday night). As everyone says, the hotel is fantastic. You feel relaxed as soon as you walk in being handed a cold towel and a fresh made juice while the formalities of check in are taken care of. We arrived at the hotel around 11AM and our room was not ready. However, the hotel told us exactly where to go to change and said we could start using the facilities immediately. Our room was a standard room on the 1st floor near the Family pool and overlooking the main restaurant courtyard. A nice spacious room with modern fixtures and fittings. The included mini-bar is a very nice touch and you don't feel that the hotel is ripping you off to have water or a coke or beer. The only downside to the room, believe it or not, is the lack of spare power outlets. We needed to charge a few phones and some ipads but could only find one socket. There is a bose ipod dock which helped but overall, a minor bug to deal with. A couple of people have mentioned the fact that there is no door to the bathroom and the shower/toilet doors so it can be noisy but we didn’t even notice this.
There are 3 pools and all are in immaculate condition. We were able to find somewhere to sit at all times and the attendants were very attentive, always refilling our cold water without asking. There were plenty of towels and everyone was very accommodating. The beach is stony (not sandy) but nice and pleasant with plenty of lounge chairs to use.
From a food point of view, we have 4 meals at the hotel. Lunch at the middle pool was great and very relaxed. The wagyu burger is definitely worth trying. Dinner on the Friday night was the main restaurant which was very good. They say you need a reservation but we called and booked with 30mins notice. The breakfast is in the same main restaurant and is excellent with plenty of choices both on the menu and in the buffet. Our last meal was lunch by the Family pool where they also serve wood-fire pizzas.
Check out is noon but you can still use the facilities after checkout. The hotel just extended our account so we could continue to charge things. I’m not sure if a late checkout is an option but it didn’t seem like it would be, or at least not for those in the lower priced rooms.
To cap the trip off, we wanted a quick tour around the city before we flew. The hotel called us a taxi and what was supposed to be a quick drop off ended up being a full tour of the city for 2.5 hours and an airport drop off for 23 Omani Rials. Definitely worth doing (Call Aziz [--]).
Overall an excellent trip at an excellent hotel. Look forward to heading back there soon.
