We moved out of another cheaper hotel into the Auberge des Cedres to complete our Feb 2010 skiing trip, hoping for a wow end to the holiday - which we got but not the one we had hoped for. There was a deep fat frier fire in the kitchen around 10:30 at night and all the staff evacuated the building. We became aware of the fire when the smell of smoke started to enter our room. On exiting the room to investigate we were confronted by dense black, suffocating smoke filling the hall and lobby. There were no fire or smoke alarms installed and the staff had either forgotten that there were guests in the hotel or choose not to inform us. The fire was put out by a brave member of staff but the smoke lingered on into the morning. After much debate we were eventually moved to a cabin for the night. On confronting senior management in the morning they cared little about our plight the night before and declined any form of recompense. I understand that this was not the first fire at this hotel and yet the management choose not to install fire alarms. I would advise anyone to check that this hotel has installed fire and smoke alarms before considering a booking here.
