“Good but needs a touch of ethics”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011 via mobile

Stayed in deluxe room. All rooms are sea view. The hotel is located about 15min from downtown and facing sea, not directly on water (cross big street) and doesnt have a beach (more like rock barrier).

Whats good: its clean, lobby and spa very luxury, big rooms, balcony is huge (3x5m), hotel has indoor pool/jacuzzi, free wifi (basic not for downloads), room has one love seat and two desks, full amenities as any other 5 star (robes, slippers, bathroom set etc), service is good and friendly

Whats bad: room design has no life, cant explain it but its dull. Electricity gets cut for a few seconds every hour or so (but im sure this is a country problem not hotel), room has no clock (the only place with clock is on tv when its of and in bathroom looking at weight scale! Tv is small for room size. Bathroom is small a shame really considering how much space is available in room and balcony. Shower head has three settings. . . drip, spray the bathroom and laser beem! Now what really got me is their ethics, first room rates. . . online their rate was 130-150usd per night but our company booked directly with hotel and where given 320usd per night!! im not paying but that just shows you the start of my ethics dilema. Secondly, taxi rides, hotel has a voucher system which they charge to your room so you dont pay driver, this is a rip of! rides that cost 15usd are charged 40-50usd, i understand that its always more expensive to take hotel cars but first this isnt a hotels limo nor does any hotel ive been in charge 3-4times the reg rate! Also note any cab can stay with you the whole day for 90-100usd and that includes gas. Airport transfer 20usd, hotel charges 40usd and funny thing is they use a reg taxi service which you can find and deal with directly at airport.

Note: hotel has a water park but havent seen it so cant say anything.

In conclusion: the only reason to stay in this hotel is if your here for water park, close to a business partner or coming in winter and want to enjoy an indoor pool. Its a decent 5 star but still needs a few touches and a much needed room renovation to give it more life. Fix their ethics when it comes to rates and taxis. They also need to join a miles program.

I would still recomend this hotel if your doing a search that is not business related and find their rates competitive. This is a private chain and i have stayed in their hotel in Jordan (way better).

Dear Valuable Guest,

We do thank you for the precious time taken to share your past experience with Le Royal Hotels & Resorts- Beirut - your sincere opinion towards our services and facilities is very important!

Apologizing for any inconvenience caused; we would like to inform you that usually the difference in the rate comes from a currency exchange application ; but as mentioned in your mail the rates were found in USD, would it be possible to advice us with more details about the site where you found the much discounted rates?
Because we are honoring the Rate parity over the net and we are under continuous inspection to gain our reputation in the online market as a member of the Leading Hotels of the World-
You stayed during the ADHA EID and this is a high season period-

Moreover the taxi charges are set by an outside company “Allo Taxi”; this company has offices on our premises, in other Hotels and at the Airport - we express our sincere apologies for not clarifying this issue to you.
We are very pleased that you enjoyed the SPA the room the view…

We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the future

Sincerely,

Anne Marie Hachem

“Showing gratitude”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

Just a quick note to thank Le royal staff and management for an outstanding service and first class resort.
I truly felt at home away from home and a sense of belonging to a family rather than an institution.
Well done from me.
I will definitely come back in the near future.

“The Worst staff and service ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

as we checked in the room the shower curtain was filthy it smelled very bad and the mirror was stained, also the view of the room is not as i expected as this was my 3rd visit to this hotel, we called the reception complaining about the room, he said he will call back but he never did,! I called again another receptionist staff offered assistance so I told him the story he said he will check and let me know, but nothing happened I called again asking for the night manager or dury manager the guest service staff told me I will transfer you to the reception but I refused, then she told me the manager line is busy i will let him call you.

After a while the Guest relation manager called and asked me to tell the story again and again and she started to give excuses the hotel is full i can not move you if you want you can pay more money and get upgrade!! WHAT A CUSTOMER FOCUS ACTION ORIENTED STAFF!! I was shocked by the rudness of the staff. then I told her at least send the housekeeping to clean the mess and send me my luggage.

After one hour 10 minutes and after 5 calls to the recption desk we received our luggage.
It was the worst slowest service you will ever get.
Not to mention that no one of the staff knows where the outdoor pool is located, we had to ask 4 staff members to directions and they send us from one floor to another.

Turn down service was done only once during my 3 nights stay, water was never refreshed unless I ask for.

“Good hotel for business”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

I stay at the Royal hotel frequently and the hotel has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Service is nothing out of the ordinary but the hotel does deliver the solid basics.

Breakfast is fresh and has a large selection of pastry - if the weather permits, you can enjoy it on the terrace outside. If you are luck enough to find a chef, he will even make you a nice omelette...

Hotel has one of the largest gyms in Beirut, so if this is important for you, this is the right hotel. Good running options if you go down the hill and to the left along the water from the hotel - go down to the small yacht club and have a look at the large boats that have their home there.

Be warned, that the free internet service is terribly slow (read:unusable, even for basic internet browsing/mails) so upgrading your service to one of the paid service plans is highly recommended.
Also - if you are in a hurry to get your luggage to the room, dont hand it over to the bellboys. They are notoriously slow and it takes them a very long time for them to bring it to the room although the hotel is quiet.

Room Tip: The rooms with a connecting door can be tricky as the sound travel through the door - I have experie...
