“Awesome value for money- so friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

Was really unsure (18 BD) about 30quid is so cheap for B&B basis, but it was fine

Good points
Clean, firm bed, everything worked in the room and AC was super efficient,
Breakfast was simple, but Francis the chef is reallt friendly nad was so helpful
Like going into a 1970s movie - sort of OK really.
Got a great nights sleep, not interupted by mosques, noisy drunks, slamming doors or anything, road noise....... Thats worth the 18bd fee as far as I am concerned

Bad points
A bugger to find if you dont have GPS. It is behind the Yateem Centre - taxi drivers know that
Appears really old - probably because it is and it is dated
No pool, no gym etc - but for 18BD what the hell do you expect

“More than adequate for the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2010

This hotel is nothing to write home about but it is a good value for money hotel. The hotel is clean, well located, serves an adequate breakfast and is cheap. The rooms are dated but clean and have all the necessary features i.e. bed, bathroom & TV. The staff were polite and efficient and there is good parking available outside the hotel. This hotel also seems to be prostitute free.

The only thing i would warn you about is that the maps for the hotel provided by the online booking agents, that i saw, are wrong. Go on google maps and try and find the Yateem Centre; it is about 1 block directly behind this.

“Great stop for those who don't travel for their hotel room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

My husband and I are the kind of travellers who like to get out and about when travelling. The hotel is simply a place to dump some luggage and crash at the end of the evening to recover from a day of exploring. Although difficult to initially find, and a little noisy in the later hours, it was a reasonable place to stay in a city with such contrasting accommodation availabilities. Being a couple, we wanted to avoid the more 'salubrious' budget hotels, but didn't want to fork out the big bucks for the luxury places. A firm bed, a shower, toilet and mirror were all available. A little musty, damp smelling and looking like it might have been a good-looking place in the 80s, it's worth just crashing there for a weekend trip to Bahrain. Very central location, and an easy base to walk from, or drive from if you have a rental car. Helpful staff, free breaky (though not great) and placed in an area reminiscent of Old Dubai. Not bad for young couples, though it's always best to stick to referring to yourselves as "husband and wife" in the Middle East if unmarried.

“Ooooooooooold hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2010

In spite of it is rated 3-star-hotel, this is really old one and quite basic. Moderate room, TV, fridge, bathtub, towel, hot water shower etc etc. Reception is open for 24 hours. You can arrive/check-in anytime :-)

Unfortunately there is no no-smoking room here.

First room they allocated me smelled so bad, what was worse, water started to leak in bathroom from upstairs , so I had to ask another room. Second room didn’t smell al all. In case you are not a smoker, you can keep asking till you find a room with no smell in there, it is no harm ~. I was lucky, though, because hotel was not occupied fully at that time. Otherwise, I would have had to stay in the smoky room for 3 nights.

The location is good. Close to Bab Al Bahrain , that is where you can hail taxies. There are many money exchangers nearby, some of them are 24 hours, also many fast food restaurants and local eateries. Gold Souk is just around the corner. It is behind Yeteem Center. If taxi driver hasn’t heard of Oriental Palace Hotel, you may mention Yateem Center, it will help.

There is a restaurant in this hotel, I didn’t try but it looks good, not very expensive. It looks like this hotel doesn’t arrange city tour. In order to do that, you have to charter a car, this is what they suggest, if you are in a big group, it might be a good idea, you can share the cost.

Considering how much you pay for this hotel, it is very good value.

“Value accommodation in central location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2010

The Oriental Palace certainly isn't a palace but if you need a place to lay your head with a view (if you're lucky) of the World Trade Centre at super low budget then this is the place to come.

Accommodation is standard, no frills and nothing special, but on the whole clean and hygienic. Breakfast is via a coupon stuck under your door in the middle of the night, take this into the restaurant for an Arabic/Asian buffet in the morning.

If you're a solo male then don't be surprised if you receive a night-time 'visitor' or phonecall, no, not the staff putting the coupon under the door! I've received both on two visits to the hotel, but a simple 'no thanks' dealt with it.

Probably more of a hotel for businesspeople, and not a place to spend any time. The reception staff are always friendly and efficient.
