Me and my husband visited Sofitel Bahrain on New year's eve. Lets just say its the worst 5 star we've ever been to, as far as customer service is concerned.
On our arrival at the hotel my husband had to actually go into the hotel ( while our car with the luggage stood in the driveway) to ask for the valet parking service and it was not until 5 minutes later that I was assisted with my car. While checking-in I was asked to pay a security deposit of 50 Bahraini dinars which is not what one expects at a 5 star hotel's welcome desk!...
Rooms were decently furnished however, the bathroom amenities promised on their website were missing and had to be requested from house keeping services.
The hotel listed a whole bunch of services including Indoor as well as Outdoor HEATED pool facilities for its guests on its website( which are not available since they are still working on the heating system). However, when we wished to use the Indoor pool ( since it got a bit chilly outside), we were denied access by the staff who also mentioned that it was only for its Spa members! When asked why didn't the website mention anything about this, the staff simply replied that it was a mistake and nothing could be done about it since the manager is extremely STRICT regarding the Indoor pool. After 30 minutes of rigorous arguing and pleading, the staff somehow contacted the STRICT manager who eventually gave the go ahead to use the pool.
Overall, I would say that the hotel has a serene location and decent enough rooms with a nice clean beach. The service on the other hand, is terrible for a 5 star hotel. I would suggest that the STRICT manager should look into the matter and train his staff to be more professional and accommodating rather than making guests feel as if the hotel is doing them a favor by letting them in!
