“Adequate for a quick business trip in Dubai”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

For what its offering, for its location, for its price, The Holiday inn Olaya Riyadh is a decent place to stay at.
I won't be very rude or negative about it since its my chosen place to stay whenever I am in town but I feel sad knowing that it might improve a lot.
During my last stay, I had the chance to meet the manager by going to the hotel from the airport together. A very nice guy from Lebanon with a professional background who wants his hotel to be as perfect as he can.
The problem around here, is that the stuff is incompetent and non caring about customers or even the hotel itself.
Thats a big issue in Saudi Arabia. You feel that nobody cares about the company he works for. Guys, when you work in a company, you are working in a family, feel part of it, give it all you have so you grow beyond your potential.

Arriving at the reception, the guy was very rude and unprofessional. He didn't even look at me in the eyes to welcome me, smile at me or even explain about the details of the hotel; what time is breakfast served, the possibility of snacks in the executive floor, the availability of a spa or that the Internet is free only for one device per room. All those I discovered during my stay and had a small problem at check out when they wanted me to pay 300 SR for additional devices connected to the Internet.

Let's talk about the room. The room, on the fifth floor is wide enough with a large bathroom specially in the new building, but, the post annoying issue is the noise, the vibrations inside that hotel that never want to end.
The room, even though it's new, has many small defects from broken lamps to a TV with a very bad signal and an AC system that makes more noise than my grandfather old car.

Room service is efficient but very slow. As I said before, no one cares if a customer waits or the customer satisfaction. They don't know what is it all about. Is it a lack of training? If it is... Please fix it.
The morning's room service is careless as well. During my three days at the hotel, no shampoo has been added, no water added in the third day, no towels changed in the second day and so on.

And now comes to most annoying part that I encountered and that is the food coverings they are used to put. I'll explain: on every dish served to the room or used at breakfast or in the afternoon in the executive lounge, they use a nylon wrap to cover the dishes. Why, please someone tell me why. It is so dirty, so unprofessional, so annoying. The Holiday inn is a four stars, such things are unacceptable. Is to keep the food more fresh? Who told them that it will? Every serving dish gets consumed in less than an hour so it won't even have time to be deteriorated. They cover biscuits, fruits... Everything. I couldn't stand that point, sorry.

At the end, even though I went into details that might make y not choose this hotel, but no, I recommend it. Remember that you are in Riyadh and that is one of the best four stars hotels around and it's worth trying. I will be coming back for couple of nights in a month and won't change for another.

“Not getting any better”

This hotel has a great location for business in Riyadh and I always like to stay there for this reason, however, they are not getting any better: Internets is very slow and you get only one access code per day means if I have to use my laptop and Ipad I will have to pay for one of the devices. The breakfast quality is not good. You can set forever in the lobby and no one will ask you if you want to order.

“It's really as good as you can expect”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I stayed here because the price offered by the hotel I usually stay in was ridiculous. The Holiday Inn isn't cheap, but nowhere in Riyadh is. And it's a Holiday Inn, so you're not expecting 5 star luxury. That said, and although breakfast was disappointing, it's fine. I found the staff friendly and welcoming, the room was clean and comfortable, room service was good, the (free) WiFi was adequate. From a Holiday Inn, what more do you expect?

“No major complaints”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Spent 4 nights at this hotel 2 weeks ago. As per some of the other reviews, the hotel staff are a bit slow at getting things done. Check-in took a while (the room card machine stopped working temporarily), but I think this is why I got a Suite room instead of a standard one.

The room I stayed in (315) was nicely furnished, large TV, big bathroom. Fresh fruit basket in the room.

Our group ate at the restaurant a few times as we were there for a conference and it just made things easier. The food was pretty good, a lot of variety. After a few meals there though it was time to go and find somewhere else to eat.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, just slow at what they do.

For women, you do not need to cover your hair inside the hotel. My colleague and I wore our abayas most of the time (inside the hotel too) and had our hair covered when we left the hotel.

Also, women cannot use the gym or pool for obvious reasons.

“It's a Holiday Inn, what did you expect?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

Average Holiday Inn, with average Holiday Inn'y stuff, the rooms are the same no matter where on the planet you are.

Few niggles - the food is over priced, the selection is not great.
The AC in the room is stuck on 19.5 - i set it to 30 but its not moving and hasn't for 3 days.
House keeping tried to enter my room in the middle of the night - woke me up and scared the crap out of me, that was fun.
Pool is only open 0900 - 1700 (you know, when i am at work), the gym is for males only - fine but most of the equipment has an "out of order" sign on it.
The fish tank - there for "ambience" has 3 dead fish in it - FAIL.

Other than that - hey, its a Holiday Inn.... job done, just glad someone else is picking up the bill, if it was my money i would not be pleased.

Room Tip: Floor 5 is for the better rooms, floor 6 is for the penthouse rooms, see if you can swing a free UG.
