Stayed 3 nights in Ramadhan in which this was by far the cheapest hotel available for the class. the hotel claims it is 5 stars but I would say it is a comfortable 4 star hotel; maybe 5 star for Saudi standard but not really international standard. Paid about $100 a night for a twin room while other hotels were priced at $500+ a night.
Pros:
Arrived to the hotel at 5pm and the room was ready. The reception was very welcoming and I even received 2 phone calls during our stay to check that everything was alright. The room itself was adequate, with an empty fridge for you to store drinks you buy from outside. There was no menu in the hotel but whatever we wanted, we got, and at very reasonable prices. Spaghetti bolognaise was $6, fresh orange juice was $3, large bottle of water $2 or a taboulah/salad was $3.
Cons: Location, location, location. The hotel is about a 15-20min walk from the haram but it's a hilly road and very very busy. A taxi from the hotel to the haram or vice versa costs 15-20SAR($4-$5) for the 5min trip; get used to it, taxi drivers in Saudi are not the most honest; no meters! The bus that leaves from the hotel to the Haram leaves every 30mins, however it actually leaves as soon as someone enters it. The return journey is the problem; you can either wait up to 30mins in the heat for the bus, or catch a taxi, which you will do more often. Another thing is the TV, if you get bored and want to watch tv, you have a choice of Saudi channels, Arabic news channels, or CNN; again, not really a problem since you are there for a different reason. Finally, the shower as can be seen from the picture is quite small and only the shower curtains prevents water from leaking out, which will happen.
Overall, not a 5* hotel, but an excellent 5* service, food and price for the time of year. Would recommend again.
