“A very friendly, comfortable mid-range hotel in Madaba”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

I have twice brought groups to stay here at the beginning of visits to Jordan, and before continuing down the King's Highway, with its amazing sights en route. The Mariam is a very friendly mid-range hotel quietly situated not far from the centre of Madaba - a lovely town close to the Jordan Valley escarpment. This is an ideal place to stay either on arrival in Jordan or prior to departure as it is not far from the airport and is a much quieter location than down-town Amman. Rooms aren't luxurious but are comfortable and clean, if a little on the small side. The pool is a big bonus in the warmer months, and the rooftop panoramic restaurant provides wonderful food and good hospitality. I warmly commend this for a short stay-over and a base for Mount Nebo and the start of the journey south along the Kings Highway. Madaba too is a well worth a visit with the Churches, mosaics, and a colourful town centre with some lovely eateries and bakeries too!

“More about the excursions than the hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We’d read so many good things about this place, we booked in to stay twice during our trip to Jordan! We were travelling in low season, so things were really quiet. The hotel is pretty basic, rooms are clean – nothing fancy. Breakfast is served on the top floor with window all round – which is lovely (except for the fact that Madaba doesn’t really have anything that pretty to look at!) Food again was basic but well done. Free wireless in the room was a real plus (lots of the other ‘posher’ hotels we stayed in during the trip charged for that)

Where the hotel really won me over was with the organised trips that it offers. First of all they arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the airport at a fixed price – this took all the worry out of being taken down random dirt tracks at midnight! The next day we took their trip down the Kings Highway to Petra. This was brilliant! We were luck enough to have another couple to split the cost with, so it was 18JD per person. We had lots of stops for photos of the incredible landscape and an hour stop at Karak castle. Would massively recommend this to anyone going from the north down to Petra – the scenery is just amazing, the Desert Highway does not even compare! The staff were really friendly and polite – even when we had to check out at 4am!

“Very Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

This place is very handy for traveling in Jordan. They offer airport pick up/drop off, tours all around the north and a car to Petra. Even traveling independently, it is easy to share these costs just by showing up to reception in the morning and seeing who is going where. They also offer a trip back to the hotel from Petra for half price if a car went down that day.

Breakfast was good, the room was small but adequate, the views over the city were OK, the wifi worked but was slow, the shower was very small and occasionally even had hot water!

All up, the place is not nearly as impressive as it looks on the website but is OK, super convenient and makes the whole Jordan trip much easier.

“Not what we were expecting but still lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We were on a tour and were quite excited to see that we were booked into this hotel which had been touted in more than one tour book as one of the best hotels in Madaba if not the whole of Jordan. So I would say our expectations were a tad high – and a little dashed when we got there. But in all honesty it is a lovely older style hotel with beautiful cornices and detailing.

The rooms are heated with wall oil heaters which are controlled by the hotel at night and get turned off which is okay until you wake up to a freezing room in the morning if it hasn’t been turned back on again. The water temperature in the shower can also be a little cool as well as the actual shower dimensions being very small with a shower curtain that grabs onto you if you try and turn. My husband and son’s room had a small bath which would have been more comfortable.

The food was tasty with a decent dinner menu served in the bar which is out the back next to the pool. Breakfast is buffet style on the top floor with amazing views over Madaba. Breakfast was bread, boiled eggs, baked beans and pancakes with a nice selection of spreads.

The staff were helpful with taxis and advice. The biggest bonus of this hotel is the wi-fi that is available all over the hotel at no extra cost. And it’s a decent speed too.

Even though we were surprised and disappointed at first after reading about the Mariam, in the end it was lovely and comfortable. We would stay here again.

“Great Hotel, Fantastic Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

A breath of fresh air after my stay in Cairo. The owner/manager is one of the most friendly I've ever encountered. She really makes you feel good.

The hotel was prompt in replying to all my questions before my stay. Rooms are clean and well appointed. A good value for your money. Madaba is a very nice city. Easy to get around and the people are very friendly.

It is a bit noisy from the hallways. But very quite during the night.
