“Cheap but very average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

A cab driver at Abdali recommended this place so I went because I arrived late and couldn't be bothered looking. I was here 2 nights.

The singles with shared bathroom are 14JD/night. This is cheap for Amman. My room had a desk, bed, cupboard and access to a small communal balcony. I first thought the door didn't close so went to request a different room but it turned out you need to hold it shut and lock it from the inside to close. The rooms have no sound insulation. Bring ear plugs. The guy next door to me was really sick the whole time I was there which made for unpleasant sounds! And the horns go on all night.

The bathrooms look really dirty and turned me off initially. I think it is more the ancient paint job that has discolored over the decades than actual filth though. There is just enough hot water to sustain a lukewarm temperature for a few minutes.

The wifi works in the room from about 4-8pm. Outside that, you need to go to reception.

In its defense, the staff are great, an adequate breakfast is included and the location is very central.

“Friendly staff, crappy rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

The staff was very, very helpful. Can't find better. The rooms, while clean, are small, noisy and uncomfortable. The location is great except for the street facing rooms with the Jordanian's obsession with their horns. There are actually better values in Amman if you share the cost with a buddy or significant other.

“Great budget hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

First impression was unorganized airport pick up service. Later on, I realize that they arrange with some local to pick us up with their own car. Recommended though, to ask for the pick up as you'll find that the city was too far from the airport and taxi was too hard to find. Room was old (literally, everything; bed, cabinet, small bathtub, traditional wall-type heater, etc) but it was covered by the friendly & helpful staff in the reception. Great location in oldtown of Amman, Roman Theatre is walking distance, plenty of souvenirs surroundings.

Room Tip: quite famous budget hotel, prior reservation is recommended (don't be surprised, email is hotmai...

“A palace? I must've missed a turn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

I doubt the king of Jordan has heard of this particular palace but then again who knows.

This is a safe budget hotel located somewhere in downtown Amman with women workers & friendly staff, it makes a good base to explore the city. There were no questions why I was with 2 single girls or any midnight kidnappings. An alcohol store is a few shops down & the Amman Bar is down an alley within a minutes walk if u need to drown ur sorrows somewhere, foreign women allowed here without any problems.

Room 403 on the 3rd floor was 3 person room, cost 35 JD & included a small 38cm TV, aircon, a bidet in the bathroom & a balcony with a decent view of the streets below. 3 single beds. WiFi didnt really work well in our room & i found myself standing in the hallway late at night next to the wireless router in my underwear much to the disgust of women & old men. There are 2 computers available for use. A simple breakfast was included. Drinking a few Petra beers before bedtime helps block out some of the street noise below. The hotel has an interesting elevator with misleading numbers. Use it from the ground floor rather than walking the stairs up the 2nd floor reception.

We walked in off the street & asked to see some rooms. The girls were able to negotiate a cheaper rate using a bit of charm. The bathroom needs a refurbishment, make that most of the hotel. The reception desk sells cheap snacks & drinks. The owners keep caged parrots in the reception area which would look great in my house.

Private tours to the Dead Sea, St George's Church & the Baptisim site can be arranged for 15 JD not including entrance fees, only the driver. This hotel isnt horrible & it isnt fantastic, its cheap & safe, 3 stars.

Room Tip: Ask to see a few rooms before you pay, its a budget hotel

“Not as described in the Lonley Planet guide but ok”

Located in central Amman, this hotel is within walking distance to eateries, markets, ATMs, money exchange facilities, mosques and attractions. Walking up the steps to the reception located on level 2, the pink walls, yellow lighting and gaudy plastered archway reminded me of a chinese restaurant. Beware that smoking in doors is widely accepted in Jordan so the common area/breakfast room, reception and landings all smell of smoke. We checked into a triple room and were able to negotiate the 40 dinar rate to 35 per night. Room 408 was on the 4th floor (but labelled as level 3 in the elevator) and looked out on to the busy city below. The room itself was very tired looking but was clean and welcoming. There were 3 single beds made up with a throw, blanket and flat sheet. There was a 12 inch colour tv with a set top box on a long dresser which we didnt use. Our room also had airconditioning which we also didn't use since there were always refreshing breezes from our 1x2 metre balcony. The bathroom had a toilet, bidet, shower with curtain, sink and vanity. The bathroom is in desperate need of a refurbishment and is so small that it is impossible for one person to use it with the door ajar. We stayed for 2 nights and all had a very comfortable sleep. On the first night the power went out from 9pm-12am which meant no tv, aircon, lighting, power to charge our phones/camera or hot water. When I asked if we were eligible for any special considerations or discounts, I was told that it was the power company's fault and that 6 buildings on the block were also out of power despite us being able too see the exterior lights on during the outage. Reception staff were very friendly and professional, writing directions in Arabic for taxi drivers and suggesting fair prices to pay for trips. We went on a day tour organised by the hotel to the Dead Sea (inc stops to St Georges Church & Mt Nebo), which cost 16 dinar pp which did not include engtance fees. In hindsight this is quite expensive, but since it was only a small group of 4, it allowed for more flexibility. Overall I'd say this is a good place for a budget traveller looking for cheap accomodation in the heart if the city. PROS: location & staff. CONS: bathroom, dated interior & meager breakfast.

Room Tip: The price is negotiable, don't be afraid to haggle. The double room we saw looked small and boxy...
