“Clean, well located, nice manager, if only they had wireless!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2010

The caravan is fine. You pay about 10-15JD per person when sharing a room. The sheets are super clean, the beds fine, the loos clean and large, the hotel is clean. It is also well located.

The owner seems like a grumpy old so and so, standing around smoking his cigars, but he is actually a big hearted man who went out if his way to help us and give directions.

The place fills and empties with groups and independants. We were there when it was empty but it was clean and relaxing. The night/evening manager was super helpful and guided us to the best local pub. There was NO pressure to eat in house. (although that would have been better).

Make no mistake that this is a cheap hotel, not a 3 star. BUT the rooms are spacious and clean. The whole place is spacious, and when full must have a great atmosphere.

As I told the owner, the only thing this hotel needs is good wireless and then I'd have stayed a week.

But it's not for everyone. If you want wifi in the room, and room service etc, you need to go up a level. Personally I think this is one of the nicest hotels in Jordan.

“Marginal hotel; must be something better for the price.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2010

Rooms are not nice, noisy, bathroom was not nice with frigid water. Staff is more interested in internet time than helping guests. Not recommended.

“Odd place...both good and bad...difficult to summarize.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

Well, odd place.

Pros:
Decent location
Usual front desk (owner?) was very calm/helpful. Helpful without the obnoxious "I'm your new best friend!" way.
We were proactively offered a chance to check two available rooms, and check which we wanted.

Cons:
Place is kind of falling apart...and is put together oddly. Examples: All room doors on our floor the same size...except one that is inexplicably 30% smaller...bathtub has a plug...but it's for a drain much larger than the bathtub in which it is found...lamp by the bed...but no bulb. Phone in the room...but it's the old rotary style. Room is cleaned well...but carpet is horribly stained.
Breakfast was disgusting. A sort-of scrambled egg thing, but that has been fried in *far* too much oil (I suck at cooking and can recognize this). Plus some pita bread served in a plastic bag (though it tasted fine).

I don't know...it was an OK place. I think the owner ripped me off slightly (long story), but I still liked him. He was...unassuming and direct, if a bit scammish, maybe. I...*guess* I'd stay there again, if research didn't find me anything better...maybe.

I don't know what to put on 'recommend' or 'not'. I'm really in-between.

“My and girlfriend and i stayed 2 nights...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010 via mobile

My and girlfriend and i stayed 2 nights in the Caravan Hotel as it was booked for us as part of a tour that we were on. The other people on the tour which had started in eastern europe and continued through Turkey and syria said this was by far the worst accommodation they had stayed at. the hotel has a dirty grubby feel about it. Our room was small with 3 single beds and hadn't been cleaned. there was no air con, just a very noisy and less than efficient ceiling fan, the result of which was 2 very sleepless nights in the heat. The bathroom and shower was disgusting with the bath/shower all stained and smelling like a urinal. The location is ok about a 20 minute walk downtown, it's also located right beside a big mosque so each morning about 5 the prayers begin over the loudspeakers which gives the feeling that the prayers are actually taking place in your room. The staff were helpful and there is a nice patio area at the side of hotel where you can relax with a few cheap beers which the hotel sell. The hotel would be more suited to male backpackers on a budget who don't mind slumming it though I would think there are probably better and cheaper options closer to downtown.

“Dirty rooms”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2010

We ended up staying at this place by accident as we were had to return to Amman. We ended up at this hotel which is supposedly sister hotel of Mariam in Madabar - but it is nothing like it. The rooms were very dirty - the shower didn't work properly, the bathroom did not smell good, the sheets were dirty, the carpet was dirty, the breakfast was very bad, there was no wi fi internet, there was one computer one could pay for but very slow. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful, but that is not what really matters when staying in a hotel. This hotel needs a serious makeover it is old, tired and dirty.
