“Not secure, and the service it is not up to the standard”

I stay in this hotel in august 2011. During my stay somebody got into my room and stole the money from my bag, well hided in the cupboard. I contacted the reception and we made an official claim in the police but I was unsucessful. The security system of the hotel did not have cameras focusing in the door of my room and according to them nobody got into my room apart from the hotel employees, so they refuse any responsability. FRom my point of view, I was expecting more from a high standard hotel like Hyatt.

The hotel did not offer any compensation to me and I lost my money. I travell usually to Jordan and I will never recommend this hotel, note secure for business persons.

I have to add that the director and the security manager were very polite all the time and open to attend my phone calls and emails.

“Current renovations make a comfortable stay impossible!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I have stayed twice at the hotel in January. The hotel is nice, a standard 5* hotel as you expect it, rooms are fine expect the old TVs, bathroom is large, rooms are fairly clean. The doors are thin though and you can hear everything from the corridor. The huge problem is at the moment that there is renovation taking place which starts at 9 a.m., even on Fridays! The first time I had to complain 4 times until it stopped for a while, the staff was appologetic (although it did take 4 calls) and I was then offerred an upgrade and late check out for my next stay in a follow up email. I was assured that my room would be nowhere near the construction noise. Upon my next check in I was told that the upgrade was not available but I had access to the club lounge. I again asked about being far away from the noise and was assured that it would not be a problem as it was weekend. This was untrue. Next day morning, 9 a.m. the loud knocking started again. After speaking to reception three times I made another three calls which just were not picked up. Upon check out I complained again , it just can’t be that in a 5* hotel staff don’t know what is going on in the hotel and during both stays I had the impression that the staff didn’t really know details about the construction work at the hotel. I then found out that although I was staying on the 4th floor I could still hear the work on the 7th floor which means it is just not possible to stay there at the moment! My advise is to definitely check if the work is finished and only then stay there!

“Would go again...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Good location, nice rooms...
Nice terrace, pleasant lobby with a piano player every evening.
Couldn't really use the outdoor pool as I found it too windy but the indoor pool was good.
Food was great, as expected.
Again the staff made a real difference. All were just super, super, super nice and helpful.
I had ordered a medium boiled egg one morning and the chef totally forgot about it. The manager came to apologize and sent a big plate of pears to our room. I had asked for the pears as they were too good. Next evening we had dinner at the same restaurant. Manager ( I believe his name is Mahmoud but I'm not sure) saw as and sent me a nicely cut pear on a plate.
I recommend it and would visit again...I guess Hyatt never fails.

“Excellent rooms, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Stayed for 3 nights. A bit boring lobby but the rooms are of high standard. The location is good with short distance to the downtown. The staff was very friendly and have excellent help whenever needed. When I checked out I noticed later that they have charged me for a chocolate bar taken from the minibar which I did not do. The same problem I encountered in the intercontinental hotel Amman few months ago. it seems like this an endemic problem in many hotels. So check you bill carefully before you leave. And an advice to the managers of the hotel, have a talk with the staff about this. The chocolate bar costed only 10 euro so it is not easy to see in the bill, not big money but bad behavior for a 5 stars hotel.
The breakfast was good but the staff seemed always to be in rush and a but tensed or stressed.
A great restaurant nearby is the Levant (armenian - lebanese). Visit the rainbow street and take a taxi for sightseeing tour in the town, taxis are cheap and they are very friendly.
