“Lousy service, rooms are a lottery”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel three times in 2011 (not my choice) and I will simply refuse next time a client tries to accomodate me there. What irritates me about this hotel is that it purports to be a five star hotel but offers service which barely rises above hopeless. So, for instance, you arrive with your family and lots of bags, and the bell hops stand and watch you haul your luggage into the lobby rather than offer to help (which is their job). The reception staff are equally slow and uninterested. But the crowning moment of one stay was the arrival of the baby cot to our room - of course, although we had booked a cot and arrived at 5pm, the staff had not got the room ready and we had to wait half an hour for them stir themselves into action. Eventually, they presented, for our child to sleep in, a battered, wheeled laundry hamper, with a folded blanket at the bottom substituting for a mattress. The blanket was dirty and, bizarrely, had bits of dried tomato adorning it.

The story with the facilities is not much better. The pool is elderly and tatty, the fitness room indifferent.

The quality of the rooms themselves is highly variable and so something of a lottery. During my stays I have been put into rather pleasant refurbished rooms and, alternately, chipped and grubby accomodation from a different era. Staff at the front desk were unwilling or unable to move me to a better room.

Never again.

“unexpected excellent hotel”

A real Crowne Plaza hotel.
Great rooms, large. Excellent furniture.
A real surprise. nothing to complain.
Just a couple of notes. It is not far from downtown but you need to get a taxi to reach the living heart of Amman. A taxi could easily take at the hotel at higher price then standard taxis.
There are some not smoking floors, but the smell of cigarettes is always constant everywhere, (the hotel restaurant does not have a not smoking area) ,,,, this is Jordan.
Anyway a very good hotel!!

“Pleasant Hotel to stay in”

The Crowne Plaza hotel in Amman is a very comfortable hotel to stay in though a little far from the city centre. Staff are polite and very helpful.

“Smokey and Noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

Not the best hotel in Amman, and certainly not my first choice. Even though I had a "non-smoking" room it still stinked of cigarette smoke. Elevators were slow and for some reason one always stopped at the Mezzanine floor without pressing the button.

Lots of noise in the early hours of the morning from a couple of rooms, which was strange as this was a mid week stay.

Breakfast nothing to write home about

“OK if You're a Munchkin,You Smoke and You're on an Overnight Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

I've stayed at this hotel before because it is convenient to our office location in the Abdoun area of Amman. But every time I check in the negotiations start. Does the rate include B & B or not? What's this extortionist rate for Internet? Is it a VIP room or not? Their staff are cool - nothing like their IHG colleagues over at the Intercontinental Hotel. But they are efficient. I called the valet to get my luggage and by the time I got to the lobby my bill was ready. I do have to say the reservations staff are much more cordial than the front desk staff, though.

The rooms are small; I get extremely irritated if I cannot unpack and put my clothes away, even for one night. But this was an eight night stay with my wife. The closets are small. There are no drawers for socks, underwear, belts and ties. There are a few shelves, small and narrow in height, located under the obligatory room safe so you have to stand on your head to use them. And what's with the deep drawer located under the suitcase bench? Is it a pullout bassinet? Is it designed to store your suitcase(s) out of the way? Or is it for shoes? I've seen this before in one or two other hotels and never quite understood the logic behind it. If you're invited to store your suitcase, just where are you invited to store your clothes and accessories?

Beds are soft but the pillows are good. However, we were on a nonsmoking floor and because it takes a Phi Beta Kappa to operate their temperature control that is limited in range, we had to open the window to cool the room down. This just turned our room into an ashtray.

The breakfast room is dark and small unless you are into exploring; there are a few tables around the corner that appear to be set up for meetings or an overflow room. Nonsmoking gets relegated to a few tables three steps above the smoking floor. Smoke rises, people. And, once again, here's a hotel where the food and beverage manager hasn't trained his staff to communicate. I had to ask for decaff coffee several times, yet three different times I was asked if I wanted tea or coffee and when informed of my request for decaff they still attempted to pour me a cup of leaded coffee. But regrettably, it's a trait in the region - people tune you out.

This is a one or two night stay hotel. Hang your suit to get the wrinkles out. Get in - get out. I would not recommend this for a family stay.
