If the location hadn't been ideal, you would be better off sleeping in the street! As a veteran backpacker who has been to hostels in 50 countries over a span of 20 years, I am sad to say I have been to the absolutely worst possible place. The list is so long I do not know where to start, but the absolutely worst part was that non-travellers were staying in the hostel, making the environment feel unsafe. I do not know who these people were, but they were definitely not travellers. On my last night one such 'guest' disassembled the liquid soap dispenser outside the bathroom and stole the content (I am pretty sure it was not an accident, since there was no spilled soap or water around the sink)!!! When I complained at the front desk, I was met with the attitude that 'it could have happened anywhere, even in 5 star hotels', as well as a refusal to refill the dispenser. Even when in th room we had to lock the door to prevent drunk 'guests' intruding.
Besides, the place is listed with free wi-fi. This is only true for the lobby, no wi-fi in the rooms! The entire place was dirty and worn down, the ceiling was broken and had visible marks from previous water damage. The door was rusty and damaged and could easily have been broken down with little force. Service was also horrible, no...If the location hadn't been ideal, you would be better off sleeping in the street! There were only 2 sockets for a dorm of 6 beds, and both were a fire hazard. Even after several nights paid in full I still had to pay to store my luggage for a couple of hours after check-out. Not a huge amount, but still adding to the impression of bad service.
As I said, if the location hadn't been great, it wouldn't even be worth the 1 'star' I give it. It would be safer and cleaner to sleep in the street..... While it was relatively cheap, it definitely was not worth the charged amount.More
