“First time in Tel Aviv”

Nice little hotel located right on the beach. Really friendly helpful staff especially Patrick the Reception Manager who was so helpful when we booked a trip to Jerusalem and also after check out looking after our luggage. Breakfast was always good - didn't miss it once which is unusual for holiday. Missed having a swimming pool but it is a small hotel and the beach is really close and very nice. The only way the hotel could improve is to put a small fridge in the room. I'd return to the hotel but unlikely to go back to Israel due to the power mad airport security. A little common sense would make them realise that Israel is not the only country facing terrorists threats and that not everyone is a terrorist - some people might actually have just wanted a holiday. I wonder how many innocent tourists never go back because of the treatment at the airport.

“The place from hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2011

Had booked a non smoking room for 3 and when we got there, they only had a smoking room available which we did not know til we went up. One of us has asthma and was triggered the minute we went into the room. Ended up with no problem solving on their end or responsibility. We were given a double room non smoking and the third person(our adult son) called a friend in Tel Aviv and slept on their couch. We were told we would have to talk with the manager in the morning to straighten out the issues. It was a nightmare process the next day and took a lot of time to get the billing issues resolved and when we gave a key to our son to get his luggage from our room, they had cancelled out the keys before we had even checked out. The manager got into a shouting match with our son accusing him of trying to stay illegally in the hotel and refused to update the keys so he/we could get back into our room and get our stuff. It was awful!

“top location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2010

Two minutes to the ocean, one minute to Ben Yehuda Street, two minutes to Dizengoff Street. That means to me it is a top location. When you stay away from the upgraded rooms with sea view you can expect a nice sleep without noise. Walking distance to Jaffa-40 minutes and to the harbour-20 minutes. The Olympia Hotel is located at the northern part of Tel Aviv with a beautiful beach. The Hotel is a basic tourist hotel with basic rooms. The rooms a clean but the beds are very small. The hotel staff is very helpful and nice. The breakfast is great-but don´t expect meat and sausages. Check in and check out on a Saturday during daytime is no problem!! It is very very reasonable price for the Hotel.

“Be Careful”

We had 3 rooms booked but we were told that we didn't have a reservation. Later found it, but said that it had not been confirmed by our booking agent (which I don't understand)and that they were sold out. So be sure to double check your reservation. Agent found us another hotel, but the front desk was not helpful in helping us to transfer our luggage and would not pay for a taxi. Wasted the afternoon for us. Other friends had 2 rooms and found rooms to be minimal, shabby, and small.

“tourist class hotel, under $100”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2010

Located near the Sheraton Hotel in Tel Aviv, it is still within walking distance of Jaffa and other local sites. The walk along the esplanade was much more pleasant than walking even one block inland, due to the cooling breeze. The beach is sort of across the street. The hotel itself is the basic tourist class hotel, with a commensurate price, and therefore much more reasonable than the other international hotels nearby.

The room is comfortable enough for two and the bathroom accommodates two people at the same time. The shower provided a good stream of hot water to clean off the sweat from the humidity ! The tile on the walls and floor were a bit moldy. Although we didn’t drink the water from the tap, we did use it for brushing our teeth with no ill effects.
We had a room with a queen size bed, desk and a couple of chairs; the furniture is made of laminate, but didn’t look too abused. A couple of the walls had very bizarre cracks and the carpet really needs a good vacuuming with the furniture moved around first. I wouldn’t say that the room was filthy, just needs a good cleaning.
There are an adequate number of electrical outlets; wireless internet access is free, but it is only available in the lobby. The small TV was adequate.

The only real complaint was the air conditioner; we had to leave it on all night and day, and yet it didn’t seem to de-humidify the air. We did a little bit of washing and it took a couple of days to dry.

There is no mini-refrigerator in the room; since we were carrying something that needed refrigeration, the staff was kind enough to put it into their bar refrigerator for us.
Breakfast was more than adequate, with hardboiled eggs, cheeses, a variety of vegetables, toast, cereal and coffee and tea. Mostly, it was that the food looked and tasted fresh.

If you are looking for a tourist class hotel at a reasonable price, and are not too particular about cleanliness, then the Olympia should be fine.

PS after we returned to Tel Aviv from our week long tour of Israel, we stayed another night at the Olympia. We were upgraded to a sea view room on the 1st floor, with internet access in the room. The room was in better condition than the first one we had. This room did have a small refrigerator. Clearly, an upgrade from the first time we stayed !

btw, you can take the train to the central station and take the #10 bus; it's not far from the stop.
