“Excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This hotel has an excellent location. About 10 minutes walking to downtown and 15 minutes walking to old Jerusalem (Damascus gate). The city is very safe, I walked on the street by myself until 11pm, even though they said I could walk even later in downtown. I wouldn't take the risk to walk inside the old town after 8pm without a local person. There are some supermarkets close by. This is a big hotel, so it's usually crowded. Expect some line during breakfast and dinner, as well as in the reception. The rooms are confortable, but not fancy. The food is good, as well as the service. I had no need for a taxi during the 4 days I stayed in the city. Anyway I enjoy walking a lot.

“Good location, room clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

the hotel is located about 3/4 mile away from the Damascus Gate of Old Jerusalem… so you will need to walk a little to get there or take a cab. This was not an issue for us, but it could be an issue for those older. The hotel was clean and the service and food were good. We were so busy when we were there, we didn’t have much time to do much in the hotel other than eat breakfast and come back in the evening to sleep.

“Alright”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Hotel provided by our tour.
Best part is the good varieties given for our breakfast. The hotel needs brightening up like the other 2 hotels next to it.
Told by our tour guide not to go out on our own around the area but to take taxi.

“Ought to be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This hotel is very conveniently located 10 mins walk from the Damascus Gate of the old city. It is one of three large hotels side by side on that stretch of road. The front of the hotel is on a quiet road. The back overlooks a six lane urban highway, although from our room on the 6th floor this was less noisy than one might expect. The entrance to the hotel, and its associated public areas, shop and bar, are impressive. By comparison our room was a disappointment. It was a good size with space for a settee. There was a kettle and a fridge. The bed was a large double with a comfortable mattress. But the bed linen was not up to standard. The bottom sheet was thin and worn, would not stay tucked in and usually ended up uncomfortably crumpled. The duvet was also of substandard quality. The air conditioning was too noisy for us to sleep with and created a cold draft even on the low speed. But it did heat up the room very quickly when necessary. There was a smell of drains in the room and the wash basin was very slow to empty. We reported this to reception but no action appeared to have been taken. The restaurant is huge and at the weekend, notably on Shabbat, was crowded and noisy. Meals were buffet style with an impressive variety of dishes, some very good quality. The staff were attentive and efficient in restocking the buffet and clearing used plates. Israeli wine and beer were available at a reasonable price and were good quality. So this is a generally good place to stay let down, in our case, by the maintenance and quality of the room. Incidentally the walk to the old city passes St George’s cathedral, the British Council office and the site of the Garden Tomb. I had my pocket picked by an itinerant postcard seller near the Damascus Gate. I don’t expect that they are all rogues, but that is something to be cautious about.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front should be quieter; otherwise choose a high floor at the back.

“Old & Dirty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Old. In need of much repairs. Carpet stinks. We had only 3 hangers in the closet. No face towels. Located near to the Old City. The internet connection is much better than the Leonardo in Dead Sea because the receptionist gave me the username and password which gave me an hour of internet access without any problem.
