I stayed at Nofey Gonen for 3 nights in February 2010 with a group of 40 and had a wonderful time.
The Grounds: The kibbutz is beautiful and resembles a resort with gorgeous views of the surrounding hills. There is an abundance of flowers and greenery around the kibbutz. There is a small petting zoo/farm, a minimart, a reception/lounging area complete with bar, ice cream bars, and free wireless internet access, and more. There are peacocks roaming around, as well as a few cats and some friendly dogs that belong to the residents of the kibbutz. Be forewarned - there are many steep hills and/or stairs throughout the grounds, so your legs will get a good workout!
Rooms: There were 2 types of rooms in our building - those upstairs had only 1 room, and those downstairs, where ours was, had a bedroom with 2 comfortable twin beds and a television, separated from the "living area" with another bed, TV, kitchenette, and washroom with toilet, sink, and shower. The room was very comfortable with both heat and air conditioning. The door was a bit irritating as you had to use the key to lock it from the inside, therefore you can't go out and leave anyone in the room without locking them in as you lock the door behind you on your way out. The shower was just a showerhead on the wall with no ledge on the floor to block the water from flooding the bathroom floor, and because the tiles were not sloped towards the drain, the floor was soaked after each shower. We'd wind up using all of our towels to dry the floor and avoid slipping. We also had a loose tile in the middle of the bathroom floor and we had issues with the water seeping under it and squirting up when stepped on. Another issue with the room was a small bee-hive in the making in our doorframe outside the door, with 3 resident bees. Fortunately the room was cool enough and they did not make their way in. I did tell the reception staff and was told someone would come remove it, however it was still there the following day. None of these issues ruined our stay though.
Food: We ate many meals on the kibbutz, including all breakfasts, 1 lunch, and a few dinners. The dining room is about a 5 minute walk (uphill!) from the rooms, and the area and food is shared with the residents of the kibbutz. Overall, the variety and taste of the food was excellent. Breakfast consisted of countless types of cheese, fresh breads, a large salad bar, different kinds of eggs, french toast, etc. Some items at dinner were cabbage rolls, chicken schnitzel, chicken wings, chicken stir fry, salads, and more. There were also coffee machines, different juices, etc available at all meals.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the resort-like atmosphere combined with the cottage-like rooms were perfect for our needs. I would highly recommend staying here if looking for a place in the upper Galilee.
