I was here for 3 nights in December, 2011. We picked it b/c we got the room using Starwood points (I'm a *wood Platinum). 5 years ago, Starwood had a great network in Israel (all the Moriah properties, plus most of what's now Leonardo); I understand why their network shrank, but as of 2012 it's down to almost nothing...and that hurts.
As a benefit, I got upgraded to a 2BR suite, which was great - each kid got a separate bed, rather than one of them being on a rollaway. Also, we got free wifi - and when we needed a card with a code (really? in 2012?) they had someone bring it to our room for us.
The hotel is old, and hasn't gotten new furniture in a while. It's generally in OK condition, but just looks & feels dated.
The location is convenient (although the directions to the hotel on the website are lousy). Parking was easy. If you're an airplane geek (like me), the view of the final approach to Eilat Airport is also cool.
The buffet breakfast & dinner are - well - plentiful. Sadly, it's mostly quantity over quality; nothing was "bad", but nothing was particularly good, which is to be expected when cooking for hundreds and hundreds of people as is the case here.
Eilat as a city is "Vegas on the Red Sea", but not nearly as high-end. The surrounding area (Sde Boker, Timna, Sharm, Taba, etc.) is more worth the time.
