This is the hotel that completely ruined my impression of Israel. The room was nice and my husband and I were pretty happy at first, until I woke up at 2 AM as there were HUGE bed bugs in my bed. I've never seen anything like that before! We found and killed 3 of them and brought them in a bloody bag to the reception, where we met a reception guy Andrey who looked and behaved as if he was under the influence of drugs. So this Andrey called another Russian guy named Boris, who is their security guy sitting at the entrance, and asked him to go with us and check our room. My husband and I are Americans, though I am of the Russian descent. Not knowing that, these 2 Russian guys begin talking between themselves in Russian, saying some really nasty things towards us and using bad language. I was completely shocked by their behavior and let them know that I could understand them. There were pretty surprised to find out I could understand what they had been talking about. After that Andrey implied that it was us who had brought the bugs to the hotel!!!! After a very long and agitated conversation he agreed to move us to another room.
The next morning we wanted to discuss the incident with the management of the hotel. What a surprise -- no management could be found! The same thing happened the next day as well, although we were assured that the management already knew about the incident and all appropriate measures had been taken. Nobody offered to reimburse at least some part of the ruined night's rate! It was then that the Russian security guy Boris approached me and said in a threatening voice: "Do you want to cause problems? I can call somebody, and it will be you who will have problems!". My husband was absolutely furious about the whole situation and the people at the reception obviously didn't want him to draw attention to the whole thing. We were invited to a back room, where a female "manager" tried to offer us a free buffet dinner at their restaurant, saying that she couldn't do more as she wasn't authorized, and the main manager could not be reached. To make the story short, after we promised them to write a bad review about their hotel, they reimbursed us half of what we had paid for that night.
Another service that left us disgusted was a woman named Natalie who was selling tours around Israel and Jordan in the lobby of the hotel. She promised a tour to Petra at the rate of USD 170 + 55 Israel crossing fee per person. When we were paying for it, she high-jacked the exchange rate from 3.64 NIS per dollar to 4 NIS per dollar, and we ended up paying USD 186 per person. At that moment we couldn't go with another company, as it happened in the evening on October 31, and from November 1 the Jordanians were raising their border crossing fee by USD 45. So we were stuck with her. I would highly recommend to bring US dollars not to lose a lot of money on this ridiculous exchange rate. Anyway, it's possible to find cheaper tours from somebody else. One of the guys in the group paid USD 210 (including Israel exit fee) for the same tour.
