Under new management since early 2012, the Nilya provided very comfortable accommodation. The co-owner spent some explaining what to do in the town and surrounds and established an intimate feel around the place. The attention to detail was impressive, from the beautiful decorations to restful green and secluded courtyard and seating areas on the balconies.
I have read with much interest the poor review of fellow travellers dated the 6th November 2011 from trip advisors "Top Contributor" with 58 reviews. Whilst we found many similar things over our four nights as they, writing this review in hindsight after travelling for five weeks throughout Turkey, we still rate the Nilya highly.
The room was reasonably comfortable although they did vary greatly in size. We had a large triple bed room for one night prior to being moved to a small double room. Unfortunately there was only one stool so there was nowhere to sit or relax in the room. Nor was there anywhere to place bags except on the bed or floor. After a few days we found this very annoying. A collapsable luggage rack is well overdue as perhaps is consideration to removing the large wardrobe/cupboard where nothing can be stored or hung. There was no fridge, TV or tea making facilities in the rooms. Free wifi was provided but we often had to leave the room to obtain good reception.
The bathroom was impressive and a pleasure to use. The courtyard areas were comfortable and a great place to sit and recover or read.
Breakfast consisted of a plate of fresh fruit, cheeses, etc with eggs prepared as one desires. Bread, toast, coffee and a selection of jams were provided. Although not large in quantity, you felt satisfied and not heavy as you do in many establishments after eating.
Do try the restaurant attached to the sister hotel, the Bella. The food was of a high standard and not too expensive, wide selection available, service warm and with views from the rooftop an enjoyable experience.
I do need to make mention about payment at the restaurant. Rather than putting the meals on our prepaid room account, we paid at the Bella reception either in cash or by card. However, upon checkout the Nilya reception, in very limited English, requested we pay again until we managed, after much searching, to produce receipts for the two evenings in question.
During our stay we really appreciated the kindness of the Nilya staff who always came out and asked if we would like a complimentary coffee or tea as we sat in the courtyard recovering from a walk or tour. We found them amongst the most attentive, unobtrusive yet sincere and naturally friendly people we came across. It was a pity we could not converse more freely with them.
There are a few things we felt could be improved, and no doubt will occur over time, but taking everything into consideration, we firmly believe the Nilya Hotel is a credit to the new owners and their careful selection of staff. And the town is beautiful and lovely to stroll around.
