“A beautiful boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

When we arrived in Selcuk by bus the friendly fellow at the bus station offered to ring the hotel for us and assured us that Erdal would be along to pick us up, which he did in a matter of minutes. Similarly, he drove us to and from Ephasis and back to the bus station when we left. This sort of service really makes Nilya stand out.
The staff were very attentive, yet unobtrusive, each day after our wanders they were keen to offer a tea or coffee in the lounge.
We booked a double suite, for a bit of extra space, which worked well as there was a couch to relax on. The rooms are extravagently decorated in the Turkish style, reflecting the owners artistic inclination. The bathroom was also very clean and beautifully decorated. We found the heating and the shower worked well and were nice and warm in the middle of Winter. We did need to leave the water running for quite a while until the hot came through, but then it was a great shower.
The pre prepared breakfast each morning was very tasty and was complimented by eggs cooked to our liking. Tea and coffee was available any time at no extra charge.
There is free wifi with worked well in the lounge and in our room, as we were immediately above.
The owners also own a shop, but apart from offering to show us if we liked, did not mention it again.
We highly recommend Nilya if you are looking for the genuine Turkish experience, rather than the more sterile bells and whistles of a larger or chain hotel.

Room Tip: If wifi is important, it worked well in the suite above the lounge.

“Tranquil and an absolute gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

A sister hotel to Hotel Bella. The location is good, even though is hidden in one of the lanes of the houses. I love the coziness and the staff who are family members are so warm.

The room is very clean, and new. All furniture are made from crafted wood, and the bathroom I believe was recently refurbished so is clean and nice.

We arrived in Selcuk by bus, is about 5 mins walk and near to Hotel Bella. You won't miss it as you'll come to St John's ruins first. We were here for 3 nights, and they provide free transport to Ephesus. One of the family members is also a taxi driver so they provide more reasonable price than if you just hail a cab down.

There is a common area where you have your breakfast, and I love just sitting there talking to other hotel guests or to the hotel owners. It is just so warm and cozy. What I really like and look forward to everyday is the breakfast! It is fantastic, they prepare it when you arrive so not buffet style. All the fruits and vege are so fresh and they even craft as you'll see in my picture.

There is also wifi, just no television, which is no big deal at all. I find it so relaxing just hanging out in the common area soaking in the peace and tranquility.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone.

“Great with perhaps still some improvements required.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Under new management since early 2012, the Nilya provided very comfortable accommodation. The co-owner spent some explaining what to do in the town and surrounds and established an intimate feel around the place. The attention to detail was impressive, from the beautiful decorations to restful green and secluded courtyard and seating areas on the balconies.

I have read with much interest the poor review of fellow travellers dated the 6th November 2011 from trip advisors "Top Contributor" with 58 reviews. Whilst we found many similar things over our four nights as they, writing this review in hindsight after travelling for five weeks throughout Turkey, we still rate the Nilya highly.

The room was reasonably comfortable although they did vary greatly in size. We had a large triple bed room for one night prior to being moved to a small double room. Unfortunately there was only one stool so there was nowhere to sit or relax in the room. Nor was there anywhere to place bags except on the bed or floor. After a few days we found this very annoying. A collapsable luggage rack is well overdue as perhaps is consideration to removing the large wardrobe/cupboard where nothing can be stored or hung. There was no fridge, TV or tea making facilities in the rooms. Free wifi was provided but we often had to leave the room to obtain good reception.

The bathroom was impressive and a pleasure to use. The courtyard areas were comfortable and a great place to sit and recover or read.

Breakfast consisted of a plate of fresh fruit, cheeses, etc with eggs prepared as one desires. Bread, toast, coffee and a selection of jams were provided. Although not large in quantity, you felt satisfied and not heavy as you do in many establishments after eating.

Do try the restaurant attached to the sister hotel, the Bella. The food was of a high standard and not too expensive, wide selection available, service warm and with views from the rooftop an enjoyable experience.
I do need to make mention about payment at the restaurant. Rather than putting the meals on our prepaid room account, we paid at the Bella reception either in cash or by card. However, upon checkout the Nilya reception, in very limited English, requested we pay again until we managed, after much searching, to produce receipts for the two evenings in question.

During our stay we really appreciated the kindness of the Nilya staff who always came out and asked if we would like a complimentary coffee or tea as we sat in the courtyard recovering from a walk or tour. We found them amongst the most attentive, unobtrusive yet sincere and naturally friendly people we came across. It was a pity we could not converse more freely with them.

There are a few things we felt could be improved, and no doubt will occur over time, but taking everything into consideration, we firmly believe the Nilya Hotel is a credit to the new owners and their careful selection of staff. And the town is beautiful and lovely to stroll around.

“A gem in Selcuk”

My family enjoyed a wonderful 3 night stay at the Nilya in December. Based on what I saw, it is clearly the best hotel in the area. The owner, Erdal is terrific!! He was very responsive to my emails from the very beginning and because of the changing nature of my travel plans, I sent him several emails. He was exceptionally helpful to us while we stayed at the Hotel. The people he has on his team are all very nice and attentive-it is clear they want you to have a positive experience at their Hotel. One reason we chose the Nilya is because it was remodeled a year ago-they did a beautiful job. The bathrooms are beautiful. We were very happy with the Nilya and we are pretty picky so I highly recommend it if you are headed to Selcuk.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room upstairs-view is better.

“Clean, friendly and beautiful rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We stayed at hotel Nilya in January for two nights and found that it lives up to the standard portrayed by TripAdvisor. Hotel Nilya is situated approx 5 minutes walk from the otogar (bus station) and 10-15 minute walk from the train station. It is located on a quite local street but 100% safe. We arrived in the evening to be greeted by our hosts, although Erdal wasn't there that evening, his friend Leanne checked us in. She suggested we settle, come back down for tea so she can show us what there is to do around the Selcuk area.
We went up to our room, which was beautifully decorated - really well thought out ornaments were matched to the style of the room.
We returned downstairs where Leanne gave us a complete run through of things to do, suggesting a timetable for us for the full day ahead. She also pointed out suggested places to eat.
Ephesus was our main reason for visiting Selcuk, Nilya had a basic guidebook that we borrowed for the day (complementing an audio guide). Nilya also offered a shuttle service free of charge running between the hotel and Ephesus. This does not seemed to be advertised anywhere, and I believe that it should as it helped us greatly.
Breakfast was above average, a little more variety and eggs not only boiled, but a choice of scrambled or fried as well! (ten days into my travels, I was pretty sick of boiled eggs). Hot beverages were provided free of charge. We came back to the hotel one afternoon and enjoyed tea watching the sunset from the balcony.
Given we visted in one of the colder months, heating was required, but it seemed that it wasnt working too well, but a hot shower solved this issue. The other issue we had was a weak internet signal in the rooms - no problem in the reception area though (actually good for us, means we weren't accessing our emails all the time!)
In a nutshell, a clean, friendly and highly recommended hotel for Selcuk! You have obviously put a lot of thought and pride into this place. Thankyou for making our stay so memorable.
