“Great Hotel in Istanbul”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I stayed at this boutique hotel for two nights and I like it very very much. The hotel is centrally located, in a nice and quite area! It is designed with a great taste, the rooms are large, quite, comfortable and with very good amenities. Everything in the room is brand new, the bathroom is large and modern! Unfortunately I did not have time to visit the spa, but for sure next time I will go! Breakfast is very good, with fresh and quality products,, plus a good selection! the only bad thing that I found the missing wi-fi on the rooms!

“Great Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I stayed at The Sofa hotel with my cousin for a long weekend in May. The hotel is very modern and minimalist with a spa area.. We were in one of the bedrooms overlooking the main road and did not experience any noise. The room is a nice size with a lovely bathroom full of cute toiletries.. The hotel is based in a really nice area opposite a shopping arcade, however, if you walk a few minutes away there are some lovely restaurants you can sit outside and beautiful, high end shops. We had a hamman at the hotel spa and whilst on the expensive side it was definitely worth it and an amazing experience. We did not eat the hotel preferring to sample the local restaurants and sit outside. I would stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to my friends!

“So not worth the money.”

Stayed here for our Chrismas and new year holiday. It was hugely disappointing from beginning to end. The breakfast prices are crazy for what's on offer. And good luck getting coffee breakfast. This staff seems to only be focused and moving quickly when it's time to close down the breakfast buffet.
The biggest problem by far is the minibar staff. Though we had turned on our "do not disturb" light, the minibar staff walked right in to the room when I was fresh out of the shower. Really. And I am not the first reviewer to note this. So when, in a flood of tears, I went to the desk to deal with this (after being promised a call back from the manager that never came), they offered us free breakfast for the stay and to upgrade our room, and to ensure the "do not disturb" light worked in the new room. Interestingly, the upgrade proved to be a downgrade. We got a "tranquility suite," which amounts to a room with no external windows, where despite contacting the desk twice a day every day, they couldn't get the temperature below about 24c/75f, which was warmer than we wanted it. The only windows in the room overlooked a rather cheesy little internal atrium with a "Japanese garden" and a direct shot view of the elevator bank, so we could never really open the curtains. And, to top it off, despite a fully functional "do not disturb" light that was turned on, a minibar man knocked on the door-- I screamed "no, don't come in!" since I was dressing. He walked away only to come back 2 minutes later and unlock the door and start to come in without knocking. I raised this again with the desk (it was the day before checkout) and they promised it would be taken care of. I checked out to not even as much as an apology. Finally, even if this place were not a management disaster, where you can be assured of being walked in on, you don't want to stay here if you are planning to get around istanbul by taxi to see the sights. Traffic in nisantasi, especially up the street where the hotel is, is horrible. More than 1/2 of the time of our trip from the airport was the last kilometer to the hotel. And one afternoon when I wanted to go to the bazaar, hotel staff simply could not get me a taxi. We tried for nearly 20 minutes and finally gave up. Coming back from a program one evening, 8 taxis turned us diwn when we told them where we were going, saying the traffic is way too much. My advice: stay anywhere else!!!

“Rushed Spa Experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

This review is only for the Nisantasi Sanitas spa at the Sofa Hotel. If nothing else, a spa experience should be relaxing; unfortunately, our experience here didn't meet that basic standard. We pre-booked two concurrent massage appointments, but upon arrival, we found out that the staff had only recorded one. They were able to squeeze us both in, but my husband's didn't begin until 30 mins. after mine had started. Our massages were good, but the whole experience felt rushed, we were barely able to spend any time enjoying the other amenities, and small details such as offering us water/tea were overlooked. The manager present made it clear that she had other places to be.

There are a lot of options for spas/massages throughout the city, so I would recommend trying a more promising venue.

“Chic but not a luxury hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We checked into this hotel thinking that it is chic and everything will be luxurious for our New Years event. We are not impressed. It looks nice but there is some kind of a solvent/cleaning product smell when you are waiting at the reception. I would not expect that from a luxury hotel. The price is too high for the amenities. The room furniture looked beaten up.

The reception might be the slowest possible in Turkey. The staff is very kind and helpful though. They were supposed to call us when the room was ready. We never received a call.

The rooms are nice but the bathroom felt a little odd. The bathroom door which is a large glass got stuck. The shower setup seems really useless.

The hotel is centrally located if you are into brand shopping. You will not have Istanbul experience here. It is more like Union Square in San Francisco. It was fun for the New Years because the city has a big street party and that's what we wanted to see. The street party is only a block away from the hotel.

There is no Wi-fi in the room. You need to hang out in the tiny reception area along with 100 other guests to check your e-mail.

I hesitate to recommend this hotel because I expected more.
