“Location, location, location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Upon first glance, this hotel was charming and quaint. We were part of a large group and my sister and I were fortunate to be assigned one of their larger suites behind the hotel nearby the breakfast room. We found Istanbul's weather to be much colder than expected, so it was a definite plus to have a working heater. In addition, their accommodations (bedroom, bath) were roomy, neat and clean. It was also a perk to have access to wifi. If you also needed use of a computer w/ internet access, there was one available in the main lobby.

Our first evening at the hotel, our group had dinner at the restaurant patio in the back and consider their kabobs still the best I've had during the entire visit.

As for location - you really can't beat the location of the Stone Hotel. It's within walking distance (less than 5 minutes) to Sultanahmet Square where the major sites were - Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, the Cisterns, etc. Being that the hotel was on a hill, you could easily see the beautiful blue sea out in the distance. Even better was being able to go to the hotel's rooftop terrace to take in the stunning 360 view of Istanbul during sunset.

The staff at the Stone Hotel was incredibly hospitable and kind. They gave wonderful suggestions of where to go and how to get there. If you needed help with taxi service, or even last minute cruise suggestions, they were quick to call the right people to help get you to your destination. The service was fantastic and if ever I were to come back to Istanbul, I wouldn't mind revisiting this place again.

“Location, service and atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

Our family of 5 adults stayed here for 8 nights in mid September. The hotel is marvelously convenient to the historic Ottoman sights, has a roof terrace from which you can watch the sunset and have drinks, and a lovely walled patio with lots of seating where you can enjoy the buffet breakfast. Wifi is available on the terrace and in the patio. The young men who staff the desk--most particularly Ramazan and Ebo--are knowledgeable, charming, and extremely helpful. Our room for three was good-sized and overlooked the patio but also faced an apartment with balconies. We never saw people in the apartments, though. The room with a double bed was a little bit small, but how much are you in your room? With the generous public spaces, it didn't matter. Our air-conditioner worked well at night and we even had a refrigerator in the room. Somedays the cleaning person left small bottles of water in our frig, somedays not. One morning we left for at excursion at 5 a.m. and the kitchen put a breakfast out for us. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter.

“Friendly and perfectly located”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

We spent four nights at the Stone Hotel in September 2011. The staff are friendly and efficient, the room was good (we got a free upgrade to a 'sea view' room, not much of a view of the sea but a decent sized room with en-suite, air-con and double glazing). Breakfast buffet was good and served til 10.30 am for late risers! Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Location is superb - a very short walk from the Hippodrome, Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia and an easy walk to the Grand Bazaar too. Take the metro from the airport and change to a T1 tram, alighting at Cemberlitas for a super-cheap airport transfer. Highly recommended, we'd certainly use the Stone Hotel again.

“Rate to high for what is being offered”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Great location. Within walking distance from the main highlights. But I would like to add that I felt that the price is too high for what is being offered. The rooms are clean but the shower isn't as it should be. There is blackness allover the silicone that is used to seal the edges of the bathtub and also around the doors from the bath tube frame there are yucky parts that I feel could be avoided when cleaned thouroughly. Probably a metal scraper will help or they just need to re-do it all. Yuckk.

Breakfast was very simple, don't expect too much. There is no variation. Every day the same thing.

The atmosphere...from the website you get a warm and cosy feeling but unfortunately this was not the case. Personnel is friendly but it doesn't feel natural; a pity. Another thing there desperately need to work on.

Whenever I return to Istanbul I will not choose this hotel.

“Best Convenient Hotel from S”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

My mum, I and a friend decided to book Stone Hotel as we arranged a ladies 5 day break in Istanbul. We were very anxious at first to what we will come across. However we had nothing to worry about. The hotel was clean. Our rooms were visited daily with towels changed and beds tidied up. Breakfast was from 08:30 - 11:30, but if you was 5-10 mins late there was always breakfast available with the help of Derya hanim bringing extras. Ramazan from the receptionist was very polite and helpful with all the details that we needed to know. Any questions we had they were answered thoroughly. We were confused with what to do on the first day, Ramazan bey recommended tour 9 which was a full day adventure of the most popular places in Istanbul to visit. The location of the hotel was brilliant. Only a few minutes walking distance from Blue mosque, Hagia Sophia and Grand Bazaar. Will definitely be visiting again hopefully and will recommend it to anyone who wants to just be local to the most popular attractions of old town Istanbul and be served just breakfast and somewhere to stay for a convenient price.
