We arrived by shuttle from the airport as part of the Turkish Airlines booking – a free shuttle and free accommodation for one night. The welcome was warm and the service was good. The staff helped me with some Turkish words and were very encouraging. The room was spotless and spacious with a view. The air-con did not work properly, but I opened the window. The en-suit bathroom was clean. The clean, white towels were of good quality. Breakfast is VERY substantial with a buffet with fresh fruit and juices, pastries, breads, salads, vegetables, soups, hot and cold foods, cheeses, yoghurts – YUM!
There is an excellent sweet pastry shop around the corner. The hotel is a stone throw from the tram line, which I took on recommendation of the hotel staff. It is easy enough to buy coupons. I travelled several times on the tram to the Spice Market, to the opposite coast, to dinner, to a hamami, and to the Grand Bazaar. The highlights were my Turkish bath at the Cagaloglu hamami (what a treat!) and the visit to the spice market - where one can buy tea, sweets, coffee, pastries, etc. And make sure to eat at the world famous Pandeli restaurant at the spice market. Restaurants are good, street stalls are great for fresh juice, tea or Turkish coffee & pastries. Everywhere people helped me to acquire more Turkish words and phrases – so friendly and welcoming.
I loved the central location and extensive breakfast!
