Orient Express is an excellent place to visit Istanbul. Located in walking distance from major attractions: Hagia Sophia, Topcapi palace with harem, Grand Bazar, etc. 100m from a tram stop, 300m from local railway station and 500m from ferry terminal.
The hotel is very clean and nicely decorated in the style of the Orient Express train.
We have got a room reasonably equipped: small bathtub with a shower, hairdryer, TV (old, but who cares?) with local and sat channels, tee/coffee maker, large comfortable bad (with somewhat hard mattress).
If you force me to find something to complain about, I could wish to have an armchair and more shelves in the room.
The staff is very friendly and always ready to help. Asking about ferry time table or museum opening hours I got the answer immediately or they tried to find it out for me.
Swimming pool is excellent for a couple of people. It needs some discipline if a handful of people want to swim, but hotel is rather small and in practice most of the time we were alone.
We decided to visit Istanbul in February to avoid crowds. We were more successful than expected, because the temperature was about zero with clouds and snow. We enjoyed visiting the most famous sites without queues and crowds, while we relaxed in the worm (very warm!) hotel room between the visits.
Another advantage of this period is that we have got an important discount, so we could afford this excellent hotel.
