“Very comfortable and reasonably-priced hotel on the edge of historic Istanbul”

Had a very nice stay recently at the Kent Hotel Istanbul. The room I had was clean, modern and tasteful, although even for winter it got very stuffy. Excellent granite bathroom (even the shower, which had a delightful rainforest head). The area is quiet and the Laleli-Uiversite tram stop was right around the corner (5-10 mins to historic center sites and maybe 20 to get to trendier Taksim). Room service was super prompt and shockingly, not that expensive - decent breakfast spread too..and free Wi-Fi with a strong signal! Customer service was otherwise hit-or-miss, but language wasn't too much of an issue with the staff.

The location is both a positive and negative. While you can walk to the Grand Bazaar in a few minutes, the only restaurants, bars and cafe's around there are mediocre, over-priced touristy spots. Would have personally preferred to be around the more lively and local Taksim/Istiklal for its amenities, but otherwise I had a really good experience at the Kent.

Room Tip: Construction is going on for the restaurant on the second floor. Members of our party had asked afte...

“Istanbul and Hagia Sofia”

Rooms were clean and comfortable; buffet breakfast was the best of our entire trip through Turkey. Noise factor was a problem around 6 am - next to a mosque! Otherwise, great location; tram stop right in front of hotel. Staff very friendly but short on English understanding.

Room Tip: Rooms on south side face next door hotel; quieter.

“Clean, contemporary, fast and reliable internet, excellent location, great breakfast, nice staff, big room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

I have heard that the hotel scene in Istanbul can be rather iffy. A friend who works as an Istanbul tour guide recommended this hotel to me and I have had a great stay (two nights, total).

The location couldn't be better--it is right by a tram stop (more reliable, less risky than local taxis, according to my tour guide friend). It is about a five-minute walk to the Grand Bazaar. It is also close (about three tram stops) to the Blue (Sultan Ahmed) Mosque, Roman hippodrome, and surrounding attractions.

My room is clean, large, very nicely designed, and there is no stale cigarette smell (a plus in Turkey, I think). The internet connection is fast and reliable. There's a hair-dryer and it works. There are large mirrors. Even though my room faces on to a busy street, it is quiet.

Breakfast was EXCELLENT. There's a huge selection of food--all kinds of cheese, eggs, meat, salad, fruit. The dining area is large, roomy, and modern. There's a beautifully designed bar area with lots of seating.

Staff members can mostly speak English or can quickly access someone who can and they're friendly and polite.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

“A little gem in Istanbul”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

The location alone made this hotel a great choice - it's right near a tram stop, a short walk from the Grand Bazaar and even within walking distance of the Blue Mosque (took us about 20 minutes to walk there). The staff were very friendly and helpful, even moving us to a better room halfway through our stay (as they'd only had a room with single beds when we checked in). The buffet brekkie was good too - everything looked fresh and tasty.
As others have mentioned the Wifi can be a bit hit and miss depending on where you are in your room.
