“It was ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

The bed was comfortable, and the room was cosy. The location is in a nice and funky neighborhood. The wifi was spotty and worked rarely. The room had only one sliver of a window. The shower was incredibly tiny. The reception was smoky. I paid 40 Euros a night for a quick two night trip during Christmas to visit friends. It was ok.

“Thank goodness we were able to cancel!”

We live in Istanbul but needed a hotel some guests to stay in. We chose Hotel Villa Zurich because it was close to our place. We went a few times to inquire into a room, and each time the service was not good at all (ex., waiting 15-30 minutes while the manager spoke on the phone, was rudely spoken to by the receptionist). The rooms were ok - some wallpaper was peeling off, the bathrooms were small...price seemed way more than what you were getting. Despite this, we booked a few nights about 1 month prior to our guests' arrival because of the location. But a week before our guests were to arrive, we see that the hotel is under total renovation! When I asked how the long the renovations would be, they informed me that it would be during our guests' stay. I said that they should have told us this, and the manager said "We would tell all our guests about this, if they ask." Um...really? So it's up to the customer/guest to ask questions like this? Lame. Needless to say we cancelled and the manager was still rude. Oh well - thank goodness we got our money back! We ended up going to the Witt Hotel and it's gorgeous!

“Unprofessional and disorganised”

I am writing this review whilst in the hotel still, using their wi-fi, because I am that furious.

My friend and I arrived yesterday-- the entire lobby was being renovated and was a disaster-- men drilling and welding, ladders, dust etc. (I understand places need to renovate- but why not temporarily shut down etc)
The 'reception' was a woman at a desk admist of all the rubbish, who couldn't find our reservation- so we had to stupidly stand around while the men were eyeing us up and down for about 10-15 minutes.

We finally were escorted to the room, which to be fair, was very nice. No complaints whatsoever about the room itself.

It was the staff.

Today, we went out and walked around the city and got back to the hotel around 22:45. The man at the desk looked up, nodded, looked back at the computer and all was fine. We walked over to the lift, where the sight of my hideous red suitcase caught my eye. BOTH of our suitcases were in the lobby, packed and zipped. We walked over to them and immediately questioned the man at the desk.

He replied, "oh yes, we were waiting for you to return but you didn't get back until late. The hotels.com booking that you made only showed in the system as staying one night"

We paid for two nights the previous day. Our hotels.com receipt AND the receipt that were given from the hotel the previous day both CLEARLY displayed the simple fact that we had booked and paid for two nights. We immediately became angry as he never ONCE tried to apologise.

He replied "yes, we had to move your things but everything is in the luggage, you can check for yourself"

We explained that it was the principle that some stranger had gone through all of our unpacked things in the bathroom, shower, closet and desk (we're girls, we're messy..) And had packed it all away in our luggage, not only without permission but WITHOUT CONTACTING US even though they had our mobile number on the SAME receipt that had the clearly shown that we had booked/paid for two nights.

He told us then that we shouldn't worry, the 'room is still there for us'. I had asked that IF the room was still there for us and it wasn't occupied, WHY did our things get packed and moved downstairs?

He simply repeated what he said earlier, and said that if we wanted to, we could write a complaint to the hotel.

Bottom line is that its sad, the hotel building itself was quite nice (besides not being told the hotel has a bar)- but the fact that the staff were incredibly rude, unprofessional and disorganised completely ruined our opinion of the hotel.

They're complete wankers, don't stay here.

“Can't recommend this Hotel. There must be better around.”

Stayed here with a group of friends for 3 nights- we had 5 rooms in total. Only one of our party was semi-satisfied with his room, the rest of us weren't. The hotel is very loud- street noise, air-conditioner noise and especially the bar on the roof which was open till at least 3am!
There were many other problems besides the noise- hot water not working, heating not working, towels not replenished, poor cleaning etc.
The staff were nice enough and did tend to the problems after we alerted them, but it seemed to be an endless list of things needing doing.
The breakfast was ok (although the coffee and juice were awful) with stunning views over the Bosporus- nice selection of cheese, olives, bread, yoghurt with honey etc. Although we would have liked some fruit.
As others have said, the location is very good- there is also a nice cafe next door and bars, clubs and shopping nearby. It's also only a short walk to the various tram lines when you get bored of the constant strain of dealing with Istanbul taxi drivers and their money-making ruses.

Room Tip: Surprisingly the lower rooms are better as they are further from the music which goes on in the Hote...

“Good Hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

I just came from one week stay there with my wife, my brother and sister.
Me and my wife stayed in a room with a double bed , the room was clean and well decorated but the bed it self is very small it’s about 140 cm & the room it self was small for one week stay, the other room was twin bed so it was ok and it was a little bit bigger.
My first contact to the hotel stuff in the reception desk that they don’t understand the reservation came from agooda, they thought the reservation was for two single rooms although it was very clear that the reservation was for two double rooms, we hade long discussion about this and we got it solved at the end but it made a bad background to have your first impression like this.
The breakfast was very poor, and never changed in all the 7 nights I stayed there, no varieties, but the view from the restaurant there was amazing looking over the Bosporus.
The room service was not good, you must have something missing in the room, one day no towels the other day no soap, I hade one lamp in the room which I cannot switch off, and I cannot sleep from its light, I call the reception on the daily basis to send my some on to fix it, some times they send some one and fails to fix it and others they ignore, in the last days when I go to sleep I have to remove the Room Card to have all the lights off and I cannot charge my camera or my mobile because of this lamp.
The bathroom was very clean and the shower has a nice Jacuzzi.
The location of the hotel was nice and near to Taxim square, althouth it is near to taxim but the way from the hotel to taxim is on a ramp so if you have a bag or something it will be a little hard for you.

Overall, the hotel is ok, rooms were nice but the breakfast and the room service was not that good.
