“Sensational stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We recently spent 4 wonderful nights at this hotel. Our son had a single room whilst my husband and I booked the suite on the top floor of the hotel. Our suite was totally charming --- as was the whole hotel. It was a wonderful place to come back to after a day spent seeing the sights. As mentioned in previous reviews the staff were sensational. Bulent (at front desk) ensured that we knew where we were going each day. He even arranged for me to be escorted by one of the staff members to the local hamam as it was dark outside and he was concerned that I may get lost. The owner, Gaye seems to go out of her way to ensure that the guests are looked after , and it felt like I was saying goodbye to a good friend when farewelling her after our all too short stay. Can highly recomend this hotel.

“I love Ayasofya Hotel!”

We stayed at Ayasofya for 2 nights, on Dec 19 and 20, 2011. I loved the cozy, small room; it was very clean. The bathroom was tiny - barely enough space to turn around. The (twin) beds were comfortable and waking up to the sound of rain on the cobbled stone street and the call of the Imam to early morning prayer was very romantic. Breakfast at the Ayasofya is very good; actually it turned out to be our best meal of the day! The location is great, because it's in the middle of the old (ancient, actually) town. Not all taxi drivers know where exactly the hotel is, so make sure you have proper directions to the hotel.

“A freindly and cosy home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

This fabulous find is tucked away in the historical narrow streets of Sultanahmet. It is the perfect location for your sightseeing as it is virtually in the shadow of the formidable Agia Sophia and a short walk to the Hippodrome, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and Basilica cistern. All the staff are extremely helpfull and will give you any information you need. The lovely co-owner if the hotel Gaye will always make sure you are comfortable and will help you in any way she can. The hotel is also close to the tramline so you can get to other parts of the city easily.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the lovely terrace.

“Enjoyable Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We stayed here during the last week of November 2011 and had a good experience overall! We had a small room which was okay for us and the staff was friendly. If you have any questions about where to go or see definitely ask and they will be more than happy to point you in the right direction. We were more of the adventorous go our own way type so we didnt utilize this, but it was good to know that its there if needed. We had breakfast 2 mornings and it was standard fare, cereal, eggs, yogurts, coffee, etc... I would suggest eat breakfast here unless you want to go to the tourist spots and spend $$ there.

The location was awesome for us. Its definitely old world charm, a small neighborhood and a short walk up a hill and there was the blue mosque and the remnants of the hyppodrome! One of the days there was a farmers market a block away and on our way back we bought various fruits to keep in the room as a snack. The tram is about a 10 minute walk and that gets you to the spice market, grand bazaar, bosphorus port, and most of the major attractions.

Wifi is best used in the lobby as previously reviewed, its hit or miss in the individual rooms. Overall this was a great experience but oh yes, almost forgot, the walls were somewhat thin in our room so much that we could hear the people next door using the bathroom, or chit chatting. Not a dealbreaker for me, but could be for some! Happy travels!

Room Tip: I think if you need wifi try to get a room in the middle portion of the hotel, the corners rooms are...

“Delightful hotel in a great location”

Ayasofya Hotel was a real gem to find. The location could not have been better, only short walking distance to the major sights, but also tucked away in the old city Sultanahmet so you really felt the local experience.
They have a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea which I loved relaxing with a glass of wine after a day of sightseeing.
The staff were really helpful and friendly, I was travelling by myself and they always made a point to look after me and helped make my Istanbul experience unforgettable.
I would definitely recommend Ayasofya Hotel to anyone travelling to Istanbul. I hope to be back one day!
