“Excellent location; a very elegant place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2011

This is my favourite place in Istanbul; I am a regular since 2004. I simply love it !
It's basically a bouquet pension, has not got the frills of a fancy big name hotel. No TV (who cares ?), gym, etc but free WiFi, a nice garden, nice elegant interiors and its own restaurant.
The place is very well located. I go there mainly for business and after dinner, when I am at last free, I can enjoy a pleasant walk to the Hypodrome, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia (just around the corner) or to one of the many hammams to "steam off" literally.
Suitable for a mature single traveller or a couple on a romantic trip.
Unfit for families with kids. Not recommended for a long stay.
Sleep quality is so-so due to the curtains which do not block light and at dawn you get the wake up call from the muezzin.
Rooms are quite small but on the other hand if you spend there a couple of days, it's acceptable.
Breakfast buffet is quite limited, and repetitive.
Price is quite high though, they take advantage of the location (it's just across from the Four Seasons and I think they have benchmarked their prices accordingly) better to book directly and ask for a good price which you can get in certain low season periods.

“Great location, but overpriced & dated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2010

Very expensive for a deluxe room on the top floor with inadequate air conditioning, a tiny bathroom, no TV and no view as the windows were over my head! No wireless in the the room, had to sit in the hall. The garden restaurant is lovely as is the building, but I saw several other hotels of an equal standard at that were much more reasonably priced. The rooms in boutique hotels in Istanbul are small in general but there are many boutique hotels in the area that are a better value.

“Location and charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2010

If you come to Istanbul looking for the luxuriest of the luxuriest, then go to the Four Seasons or to the Kempinsky.

However if you like travelling to a atmosphere full of character, not so expensive and a little boutique flavour, then this is really the place.

The friendly staff and the charming garden, the beautifull and absolutely clean rooms will do the rest. Dont expect too much from the breakfast and if you can avoid dinner (we went to have breakfast to the Kempinsky which is an experience I really recommend).

“Over priced regardless of location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2010

We stayed for one night -our last night of a 3 week touring vacation of Turkey. Agreed a great location, however, there are many great located hotels in the old city fort a fraction of the cost!
Expected luxury accommodation and dinning. Disappointed on both levels. Accommodations faded and dining was ok,( even though my husband said the lamb chops were the best he ever had!) Breakfast is far from grand, fixed served menu. In short, not quiet the experience I expected for the cost. Staff friendly, awkward access to the hotel entrance, no lift, 3 flights of stairs (if on top floor), no TV, however internet access. Do not recommend on the bases of value for your dollar.

“Location is everything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2009

I have been twice to this hotel and cannot imagine that there is a better-situated hotel in all of Istanbul. You are right in-between the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque (I don’t understand why one reviewer said there were no views – I had a magnifent view. I’ll never forget lying in bed and watching the birds circling over the minarets of the Blue Mosque – pure magic!)).
This is a charming hotel, but a bit faded unfortunately, which is a shame as it seems that with just a bit more effort the management could bring the place up on to another level. The bathrooms could use a serious facelift.
The restaurant could be charming, set in a lovely garden with a beautiful fountain, but the music and disinterested restaurant staff made for a less than memorable experience. I would say go to the restaurant for an afternoon coffee or tea, but avoid meals there. The breakfast was OK.
All that said, I would probably return to the Yesil Ev, but really based on where it’s located…by the way very near the Four Seasons (which I cannot afford) !
