“Great location but hotel looking a bit tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

Yesil Ev was recommended to us by friends. The location in a small street in Sultanahmet is good - a few minutes walk from many of the major sites. At night it is quiet, but on some days there can be a fairly constant stream of passing tour buses. It is also very close to the blue mosque so be prepared to be woken by the call to prayer which sounds very loud when the windows are open.
The walled courtyard garden is lovely and would be a great place to sit and enjoy a drink or food on a warm day. When it is raining hard - it's of limited value.
The hotel decor is in need of refurbishment - peeling paintwork and furnishings. The air con was ineffective. The shower in our ensuite was tiny. The breakfast adequate but uninspiring.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
I am sure when this hotel first opened it was a great place to stay, but it now feels like it is trading on past reputation. We would happily return to sit in the garden, but not to stay.

“Great location with personal service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

Within 5 minutes walk from this hotel you have three of the main sights of old Istanbul - the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace (the Grand Bazaar is about 15 mins away). It's small-scale and old world (except that it offers free wifi). The staff are very friendly and helpful and recognise all their guests. Its garden is a relaxing haven for breakfast or for a drink at the end of a busy day or for dinner. Breakfast is very good. If you want all the amenities of a big, modern, high-tech hotel, this is not for you. I loved it and I look forward to going back for the personal service.

“Fantastic location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

My 2nd visit to Istanbul but this time for work so hotel was booked by the company and I was pleasantly surprised. The location was fantastic, right next to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia. The hotel iteself was boutique with a lovely leafy courtyard, serving a simple breakfast. The front desk was helpful and friendly. The room were small - the bed was comfortable, the bathroom small but clean. The shower was small and luckily it was no problem for me. My taller, bigger male colleagues did report some issues showering and keeping the water off the bathroom floor. There is no TV in the room and no elevator so it is not advised to bring heavy luggage.

Overall I would recommend it as a charming boutique hotel in a very convenient location and would certainly stay here again.

“Boutique hotel in great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2011

After a business trip we decided to spend two days as tourists. Rather than a business hotel, we chose a 21 room hotel located in a renovated, large 19th century wood house (except along stretches of the Bosphorous where the rich had summer homes few wood houses remain). We also went for location. Yesil Ev (green house) is located on a small street just to the side of Sultanahmet Square. It was perfect. Walk out and go to the left, and in 3 minutes you are at the Blue Mosque. Go to the right and in 4 minutes you are at Haghia Sophia. Go to the right and walk straight for about 5 minutes and you are at the entrance to the Topkapi Palace (more accurately, a huge area of various palace and civil administration buildings plus gardens). Our room in Yesil Ev was large, with lovely period furnishings. Shower power was terrific. Air conditioning was fine. Tip -- ask for a room off the street. It is a small street and noise (vehicles going by, conversations) floats up. One omission that might bother some -- no TV (or internet access). A room off the street would likely look over an unexpected feature of this hotel -- a lovely and sizable garden. Both nights we had dinner in th garden (which has glass conservatory part if it is cool). The staff were friendly and helpful. And if you want to dip into real luxury for dinner or brunch, the Sultanahmet Four Seasons is literally just around the corner.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the garden
