“Depressing - not recommended”

We stayed at this place for five days November 2011. Our room was on the fourth floor and was definitely one of the most depressing rooms I have stayed in my life. The only window looked out into a narrow shaft which made the air in the room extremely stuffy and ventilation almost non-existant. Furniture was old, dark and would certainly need replacing. Breakfast was quite okay though sometimes the breakfast lobby was overrun during busy times in the morning so that it was hard to find a free table. As other reviewers have remarked fresh fruit juice is an extra sold at a hefty surcharge. Location is good though - 15 to 20 minutes leisurely walk to the main attractions like Hagia Sophia or the Blue Mosque, and the tram is just a couple of minutes down the road if you don't like to walk.
The worst happened when we checked out. When we had arrived from the airport we took an airport taxi which dropped us at the hotel after a twenty minute ride at a reasonable price. For our return to the airport we asked the hotel reception to organize a taxi. Although the price they gave us was way above what we had paid for the airport taxi we accepted as it was the convenient option. It turned out that the "taxi" was a shuttle bus which was supposed to take six other people as well. To our amazement the driver drove us round the hotel only to stop in front of it after ten minutes declaring that he wouldn't drive us to the hotel. After our complaints the people at the reception promised to call another driver who finally drove eight people to the airport in his minibus, dropping some of his buddies on the way.
From what we know from friends you will get much better value elsewhere in Istanbul - and if you insist on this place make sure you're not put into a dump like our room.

Dear Sir or Madame,

Thank you for your review I read your review and i am indeed sorry to learn that you did
not enjoy your room. It’s for sure that you could be provided another room
if you could ask to our Guest Service or Reception departments while your stay with us.
It’s the first time i received such comment about the comfort and equipments of our rooms.
We take utmost care for the guest satisfaction in our hotel. We mind all comments and
find solutions immediately according to the requirements of our guests.
I searched the problem about your transfer to the airport while your departure.
Usually we call regular taxi for our guest requests. Just because you asked
urgently to leave to the airport with your family of 6 people, our staff tried to
arrange to vechicle to pick up you altogether. We definitely find it wrong to
collect other passangers in the same minibus. Unfortunately it was the first
opportunity for the transfer company that we tried. But we stopped immediately
after this incident. Normally 2 taxis could be ordered if you could ask to the
Reception or ask for another arrangement. I am really sorry for the
unlucky incident happened.

Yours sincerely,

“You can find much better for the price. Do not stay here!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I booked this hotel for last part of my stay at turkey, when I was looking for a hotel the reviews for this hotel were not that great but not bad and the images were okay, however the reality of the hotel is terrible.

The plants in the Lobby are plastic and not clean, the concierge is a desk in the lobby. Gym is a very small room as part of the "spa" and has 3 machines from the 70s, it is not open most of the day and costs about 10 dollars a day if you choose to work out/ injure yourself in it. There were cracks in the rooms wall, the tv had about 10 channels to choose from and it was probably the first edition of the flat screens. The view of our suit was a brunt down building on one side and a small park surranded by run down buildings ( as bad as shanghai's residentials) on the other Side. The bar was very small and very poor selection of drinks and very overpriced! There is only two elevators in the hotel and they are very small, only two people can fit in them, one if you have luggage.

The furniture is very old and the decores are very tacky and cheap. Food quality is terrible and the breakfast buffet is limited and not fresh. If you want fresh juice you need to pay for it extras and it is called the vitamin bar, what a joke.

Front desk staff were not very friendly, the manager told us he had to hold our passport because their computer system is down? Now I travel about two to three times a year internationally and I know some hotels hold passports to make sure they get paid especially in third world countries but I had already pre paid for our room and breakfast, and their computer didn't have a problem checking us in!!!

The only good thing about the hotel is its distance to old town tourist sites but so are 100s of other hotels.

For an American chain of hotel this was a complete disaster on all accounts, I am very disappointed and will never stay at a best western hotel, senator or not. Here is another hint, if the four stars is part of the name banner outside, it does not make a four star hotel...

The irony to the situation is that I paid the same amount of money for the first part of the trip in a hotel at taqsim square and it was an amazing experience!!

Dear Guest,

First of all thank you for choosing our hotel.
Our hotel is categorized as an official 4 star hotel by the Turkish Tourism Ministry.
All room standards, furnitures, lobby, restaurant, decoration materials and lift sizes are fitted as a 4 star hotel category. Specially, such cruel comments about the sizes of the elevator and bar were first and never mentioned before. We have 2 guest elevators and 1 service elevator. Each elevator has capasity of 8 people.

We kindly will take care of your review, comments and complaints about the service. of the front desk staff

Fitness Room ,Health Club is priced discounted prices for the hotel guests. There are enough gym equipments with full implements in operation. Opening and closing hours are written at the entrence of the health club. The cost is higher for guests not staying in the hotel.

Periodic and regular maintenance and controls are strictly followed. I need to tell that our hotel management is very responsible for these matters. We will pay attention for your comment regarding the cracks on the wall of the room. But we do not know the room number you stayed that you did not write even.

We also pay attention fort he commentt regarding tv channels. We have inhouse broadcasting system with 28 channels, even if you wrote 10 channels. The channel list is carefully selected and prepared according to the requirements of guests.

The review regarding Lcd tv in the room is as cruel as your previous reviews. Tv in the rooms of our hotel were changed to new model just 2 years ago. We serve to our guests as updated technology as possible.

We generally receive appreciations from our guests regarding the decoration, furniture and ambience of our rooms. You mentioned about the view of the playpen in the park seen from your room. Some of the rooms are with park view. This park is under the control of municipality. Playpen is also organized by the municipality. Unfortunately we are not allowed to interfere for the park and playpen. Our hotel is in the city center and offers different views of Istanbul with its native structure. There are well, chic and also old buildings around. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Building is near by with the Major in. There is no terrible view as you mentioned.

We have guest service department in the hotel. We immediately solve the problems by paying attention as soon as receiving the recommends and requests of our guests. We definitely care each recommend. Our hotel management and all of our staff are pleased to take care of the guest satisfaction. We have awards about these subjects.

As a result, we find this review unfair and an aggressive approach about our hotel and service by writing all these with a nick name instead of writing the real name and period of stay.
Thank you.

“Short stay in Istanbul”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

My wife and I came to Istanbul, to spend a few days sightseeing & shopping. We caught a taxi to the hotel, from the airport and also a taxi from the hotel back to the airport. This was quicker and quite economical, at around 450 Turkish lira. The hotel arranged for our return taxi, at an agreed price. The hotel was very nice, very clean, with helpul, polite staff. The breakfast buffet was excellent and typical Mediterranean style, but even with scrambled egg
& mushrooms available, one morning. The rooms were very spacious, TV, mini bar, free internet access, etc. The location was just a short walk from the hotel to, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazzar, etc and ideal for our needs. Would certainly recommend the hotel.
