I would recommend this hotel for a short stay; the old palace is beautiful, the customer service is exceptional, and the entire place is impeccably clean. The rooms are nicely appointed, and the highlight is the 5 piece bathroom. A view of the Bosphorus is very nice, but I am not certain it is worth and extra 90 Euro a night. We were here as part of a business trip and the business facilities were very nice and well maintained. The hotel had two very significant draw-backs:
a) For individuals wanting to explore Istanbul, the distance from Sultanamet, and the majority of the tourist attraction (Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Hippodrome etc) was a detraction - a very unpleasant 25 minute cab ride (beware of corrupt taxi drivers) made it difficult to hop in and out of the hotel, and
b) the hotel did not have any convenience type shops, which meant having to leave the grounds to pick up items like sodas and light snacks, or affordable (light and simple) breakfasts. While I appreciate that this is a very high end establishment, I would still appreciate a small shop for sundry items.
Laledan and Turga were very good - excellent service, very good food. Room service on the other hand was VERY overpriced and disappointingly mediocre, even down right bad.
So while I believe the hotel is certainly worth a (short-term) visit, I do not think I would return.
