“Amazing location, charming place and lovely staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

The location is perfect ! It's only 5 minutes walk from the blue mosquee, Aya Sofia and the GranId Bazar. This small hotel is in a little pretty street in the heart of the old city. Our triple room was spacious, clean and beds are very comfortable. This hotel has a really good value, simple and unpretentious. All the staff is very friendly, welcoming and helpful. If I return to Istanbul, I will go in this hotel !

We chose this hotel due to its location near to hestoric center and it was really so good. The hotel is small but generally comfortable. Staff in the hotel is VERY frendly, polite and hospitable.
The breakfast is simple but it is good enough. The transfer from airport to the hotel and back was arranged by hotel and it was don perfectly.
I you decide to take a real feelings of Istanbul down town this hotel is the good place for that.

Room Tip: Room was large and simply comfortable, however the wooden frames on windows were old and it was diff...

“Good, great location, clean, but no luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I was twice in this hotel in a short period of time in Dec 11 and Jan 12. It is a good, decent hotel, I had a nice room, very clean, however, do not expect any luxury, it is a bit above basic in terms of equipment. I appreciated very comfortable bed. When first time, it is not easy to find, hidden in a little street - but actually only 5 minutes walk from Blue Mosque which you understand when explore the surrounding a bit. Breakfast is also pretty unattractive and is served in a cold garden house. All in all, decent, clean, freindly staff and good location in Sultanahmet, but not much more.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking on the seaside.

“Great choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

The location was magnificent, walking distance to Sultanahmet square, right in the heart of the old city. The hotel staff was very friendly and welcoming all the visitors. Triple room was spacious enough, as well as the bathroom.

“Tremendous value and welcoming staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

As is our habit my wife and I picked Hotel Tulip House with the hope that it would ensure a secure location, a healthy walk and good value. On our first day we were picked up at the airport and were welcomed to the hotel with tea an conversation (this after I took a spill on the slippery tiles across the street) Careful!.

I initially doubted the location (the first couple days) but realized eventually that it was safe and secure. The call to prayer is a memory that will stick with me for life, and the view of the Marmara kept the shutter clicking on our camera and the video running. Each day would start with a consistently delicious buffet breakfast at 8:00 on the ground floor patio in the winter garden. There are a variety of ways to walk (all with an uphill component) to approach the city. When we returned to the room each afternoon it was perfectly clean. Most of the staff speak English with fluency though some conversations with staff will be easier if you have some Turkish. There was a shower only in our very small and typically european bathroom (not an issue, just something to know).

We felt perfectly comfortable to go to the front reception area and lounge to chat, or ask advice about Istanbul. The folks are all very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, extending some options and invitations that were welcomed and appreciated. Folks worked extra hard to accommodate us and we didn't have to ask them to do so. (In retrospect I would have asked for more pillows...just didn't think to at the time and I think they would have accommodated us.)

One day we returned knowing that we probably would run into housekeeping, in order to waste some time, we wandered into the nearest mosque. Do yourself a favor: the mosque is one of the most charming and modestly gorgeous in city filled with stunning and large mosques. The guardian was friendly and welcomed us with a tour and a brief history. Of all the mosques we visited, this visit made me feel as comfortable as if I was visiting my childhood church.

We highly recommend The Hotel Tulip House. I hope we can return to Istanbul some day and we would not hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: If you can get the sea side, it's a nice view at sunset and sunrise: fishing boats, tankers, and...
